As we retrace the footprints of Jerry James Bullock we can only give thanks for the many lives he touched and enriched along life’s journey. A strong and self confident man, he was blessed to enjoy many of God’s blessings as a child, a brother, a husband, a father, grandfather, and a trusted friend.
Jerry James Bullock began his journey of life on May 12, 1948, at Arkadelphia, AR as the first born child of Jessie James and Annie Pearl Tidwell Bullock.
Nurtured in a Christian environment he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior and became a member of Piney Grove AME Church.
Jerry was educated in Arkadelphia and was a graduate of Peake High School where he excelled as a student. He later attended Henderson State University. Jerry grew up to be a handsome and intelligent young man.
At the age of twenty-one on August 7, 1968, he enlisted in the United State Army. He was trained and specialized in firing the M-14, and M-16. He was a Vietnam War Veteran and the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.
On August 2, 1969, believing God’s Word, “….and the two shall become one flesh….” he married his neighbor and childhood sweetheart Venetta Jones. The Lord entrusted to their care two handsome sons, Erik James and Jason Allen.
Jerry was a good man and a hard worker. He made many sacrifices to ensure that his wife and two sons would enjoy the best this life had to offer. Despite his failing health and handicap he managed to live a normal, and fulfilling life. Spending time with his family and traveling was his greatest joy.
At the dawning of a new year on Saturday, January 1, 2011, in his 62nd season Jerry answered the call and surrendered his soul at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock, Arkansas with his family by his side.
