Adella Mitchell Murchison was born on January 1, 1921, in the Greenville community of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to Sally and Seabe Mitchell.
Adella was blessed with God fearing parents who, by example, taught Christian values, integrity and ingenuity creating a solid family environment.
Adella confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in the Richmond Hill community. She attended school in a one room school house in the Greenville community through the eighth grade.
She met Edward Lee Murchison and after an appropriate period of courtship they were married on October 28, 1938 and God entrusted them with the nurturing of seven children to love, raise and educate. The family settled in the Springhill community and she united with the Clayborn Chapel AME Church family.
Adella served in several capacities, namely: the choir and the Women’s Missionary Society where she served as president of each at various times. She also served as a Sunday school teacher, usher, Stewardess, and class leader. Those she touched and those who knew her witnessed her untiring love for God.
She later united with St. Paul AME Church in Arkadelphia under the leadership of Rev. James. H. Giles, Sr.
Her service went above and beyond her church. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 192 where she became worthy matron during her membership. She also was faithful member of the 4-H Club in the Oakland community.
On January 1, 2011, she and her family celebrated her ninetieth birthday and it was truly a day to forever cherish.
After blessed years of sharing a life with Edward Lee Murchsion, her devoted husband was called to glory to be with the Lord on June 25, 1983.
She was preceded in transition by two sisters, Berta McClure, Christine Preston and one brother, Otis Mitchell.
On Tuesday, March 22, 2011, believing in God’s word “be thou faithful until death and I will give thee a crown of life” she surrendered her soul and is now present with the Lord.
Her legacy of life and love will be forever etched in the hearts her seven children: her only son Roy Lee Murchison (Barbara) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; six daughters, Zella Mae Knox of Arkadelphia, Lillie Ruth Bryant (Richard) of Hot Springs, Martha Jean Troutman (James) of Sewell, New Jersey, Katie Smith of Moreno Valley, California, Velma Donald of Rex, Georgia, and Clara Giles of Arkadelphia. She also leaves her loving sister, Lois Thomas of Arkadelphia, 21 grandchildren, 29 great-grand-children, and 8 great-great-grand-children, and a caravan of other relatives and numerous friends.
She had an exemplary spirit in life and leaves a great legacy for her family.
Mrs. Murchison will lie in repose at the funeral home Friday, March 25th from 2:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
The family will receive friends and share with them the Images of Life DVD from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church.
