She cried unto the Lord with her voice, and he heard her out of the holy hill. On Friday, May 20, 2011, Elizabeth Browning Carr, one we loved and knew stepped across the threshold that we call death, but it was only a step into a brand new home.
On March 15, 1924, the LORD blessed Elizah and Mariah McClanahan Browning with a beautiful daughter. She was reared in the Griffith town community. She attended Piney Grove School. She enjoyed reuniting with her classmates.
During her early childhood she united with New Bethel Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, served on the usher board, the missionary society, kitchen committee, and was very active in church. In her later years she united with Mt. Morriah Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. G. Douglas Marshall and enjoyed fellowshipping and praising God.
If you can find a truly good wife, she is worth more than precious gems! Her husband can trust her, and she will richly satisfy his needs. She will not hinder him, but help him all her life (Proverb 31:10-12) Earnest Carr and Elizabeth Browning were united in marriage and became as one. Prior to her beginning parenthood, after marriage, she became a community mother, her GOD children were Benjamin Harris, Leon Harris, Orlando Macon, Willie and Joe Griffith and Betty McGowan.
She was family oriented. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They were all very special to her. She had a “loving expression” when her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were in her present. A few days before her passing, she asked about some of the grandchildren and even imitated how they said “hi.” All her grandchildren and great grandchildren knew her as “BIG MOMMY.”
Although she completed the eighth grade, she was a substituted teacher at Piney Grove School on several occasions. She enjoyed reading, especially her cook books. She made sure we attended Sunday School every Sunday morning. She taught us the importance of being involved in church services. She also taught us to respect “adults.”
She was preceded in death by her parents, spouse, two sons, Verner Carr and Lornell Carr one daughter, Janetta Carr Buckley, and her brother Oscar Lee Browning.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters, Vernetta Carr-Sweet, Muriel Carr of Tacoma Washington, Marshel (Joe) Johnson of Arkadelphia, a loving daughter-in-law Eddie Carr of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, her son-in law Willie Buckley, who looked-in on her regular, her special God Son Elder Leon (Darnell) Harris. Her grandchildren, Dedrick (Kim) Johnson, Carlos (Tinesha) Carr Howard, Terry (Letisha) Smith, Luciano (Tangy) Sweet) ,Tahri (Morkey) Carr, LaVon Carr, Toby (Christopher) Durley, Temetria (Terrell) Harris, Vanesha Carr, Deshanel (Curtis) Carlilse , Jemeka Sweet ,Talisha (Darnell) Phifer, , LaDana Buckley, Farrah Buckley, twenty great grand children, her long time care giver Gladys Williams Brownlee, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at New Bethel Baptist Church in the Griffith Town community where Rev. Greg Marshall is the pastor and will deliver the celebration message.
