Eugene "Genie Boy" Walker

September 27, 1949 — June 7, 2011

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 Eugene began his life’s journey on September 17, 1949 in Sparkman, Arkansas as the last child of Marvin and Evia Butler Walker. He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and united with Harmony Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of Dr. F. O. Jones. “Genie Boy”, as he was called by family and friends, was educated in Sparkman, Arkansas and was a graduate of the Sparkman Training School. There he excelled as a student and was known as an outstanding basketball player. He furthered his education by attending Arkansas Baptist College and AM&N College, now UAPB. Eugene grew up to be a loving, kind and intelligent young man. On March 16, 1969, he enlisted in the United States Air Force at the Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield, California. After serving time in the Air Force he moved back to Arkansas. On June 29, 1974, he married the apple of his eye Mary Ann Edwards. They moved to Mary’s hometown where they resided for the past 30 years. The Lord entrusted them to nurture, love, and raise two beautiful daughters, Yolanda and Tameka. Eugene attended Starlight Missionary Baptist Church in El Dorado. He was a faithful employee, having worked for the city of El Dorado for 29 years. Eugene was very outgoing and had a great sense of humor. He had a special way of cherishing each individual for their own uniqueness. He kept a ready smile and spoke straightforwardly. Eugene fought his illness like the true solider he was. On Tuesday, June 7, 2011, in his 61st season of life he surrendered his soul to Christ at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in transition by his parents, and two brothers, Thurman Walker and Marvin T. Walker. He will be forever remembered by his wife, Mary A. Walker of El Dorado, AR; his two daughters, Yolanda Renee Walker and Tameka Shanta Walker both of Ft. Worth, TX; a special dear sister-in-law, Bobbie Walker of Sparkman, AR; four sisters, Marie (Ulysses) Lee of Thornton, AR, Lucy Washington of Baltimore, MD, Ruthie (James) Alexander of San Antonio, TX, and Hazel (Larry) Webster of Memphis, TN; three uncles Espen (Francis) Butler of Sparkman, AR, Anderson Walker of Arkadelphia, and I.
