Millie R. Mays, was born on January 22, 1923 to the union of Mose Mays and Gertrude Nelson in Sparkman, Arkansas. She joined White Springs AME Church at an early age.
Millie R. Mays Wright was married to Jessie Lee Wright for more than 33years. She was a house wife and worked part-time as a cook. Millie lived in both Bearden and Camden Arkansas before moving to Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2004. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. She preached kindness, respect of self and others.
She departed this life on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at her home in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mose and Gertrude Mays; husband, Jessie lee Wright; granddaughter, Kisha Warren; two sisters, Alberta Rideout and Bessie Sams; three brothers, Alonzo Mays, Sr., Willie Lee Mays and Jessie Mays.
Those she touched and those who knew her witnessed her untiring love for God. She was a believer in “treating others, as you would have them to treat you”. Millie possessed an infectious smile that would chase the chill from any room. She lived life to the fullest, and there was never a dull moment when she was around.
She loved to sing and was often know for her renditions of “I Know The Lord Will Make A Way” and the hymn “Guide Me O thou, Great Jehovah”.
She leaves to cherish her memory: nine children, John Henry (Dorothy) Mays of Bearden, AR, Millie M. Wright of Camden, AR, Jessie M. Simpson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Hozie (Bertha) Wright of Amy, AR; Vern (Patricia) Wright of Arkadelphia, AR; Helen Wright of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Pauline (Curtis) Thrower of Bearden, AR; Albertine Wright of Amy, AR, Raphael (Cristina) Wright of Bearden, AR; two sisters, Fannie Mays and Barbara Jones of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; one brother I.J. Mays of Malvern, AR; 23 grandchildren, namely, Brian L., Edria (Curtis), Lisa (Carl), James, Terry, Freda L., Shavon (Gary), Shunda, Rebecca, Raphael, Cristina, Rapaela, Joshua, Corey, Angie, Jamie, Diane, Dewayne, Camellia, Crista, Sherry, Wyonya, Delisia; 51 great grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mrs. Wright will lie in repose at the funeral home on Friday, November 4th from 12:00 noon until 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends and share the Images of Life DVD from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at White Springs AME Church, 149 Ouachita Hwy 271 in Bearden, Arkansas.
A Rejoicing Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Millie R. Wright will held at 11 am on Saturday, November 5, 2011 at White Springs AME Church where Rev. Allison Howard is the pastor and eulogist.
The committal service and final resting place will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Sparkman, Arkansas.
