I want to cross the meadows
And to see the woodlands grow,
I want to find serenity
Wherever I do go,
I long to see the rivers
And the gently flowing streams,
Which sparkle in the sunlight there
Within a place of dreams.
I just want to change my ways
I need a brand new start,
A country boy at heart.
Clayton Albert Jennings was born on July 12, 1985, in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, son of James Billy Jennings and Clarice Ann Engleking Jennings.
He attended Bethlehem Baptist Church and he attended Gurdon High School. He was a former employee of the Moses Smith Logging Company.
Clayton was a lover of sports and music. He was that cool, true country boy who had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
On January 1, 2009, Clayton married the love of his life, Brandi. His greatest joy in life was being daddy to Logan and Kailey. Family, as well as friends, will miss his quiet strength, smile and love, but will never forget his true southern spirit and loyalty. He lived life to the fullest, and there was never a dull moment when Clayton was around.
In his 26th season, Clayton surrendered his soul on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Baptist Health Medical Center; and now he is present with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Albert Engleking, Georgiann Smith Curb; paternal grandparents, Billy Jennings and Cora Ann Peterson.
He leaves his precious memories with his wife, Brandi Hammonds Jennings; his two children, Logan James Jennings and Kailey Nicole Jennings of Gurdon; his father, James Billy Jennings of Gurdon; his mother and stepfather, Clarice Ann Engleking Jennings and Jack Lambert of Donaldson; three sisters, Brandy (Robbie Fulton) Jennings and Ashley (Mike Ezell) Beavers of Whelen Springs, and Trudy (Jeff) Calley of Gurdon; two stepbrothers, Roudy Lambert and Cody Lambert of Green Forest; his grandparents, Buren Curb of Ida Bell, OK, and Martha Engleking of Barlesville, OK; his father and mother-in-law, William and Brenda Hammonds of Gurdon; his brothers-in-laws, Jason Hammonds, Roger Hammonds and Jeremy Hammonds, all of Gurdon.
He also leaves his aunt and uncles, John and Pam Lykins of Barlesville; Hazel and A. J. Jennings of Conway; nieces and nephews, Shelbie Bingham of Valliant, Ok; Cassidy Bingham, Hunter Fulton and Emily Fulton of Whelen Springs; Lynlea Welch and Wesley of Gurdon, other relatives and numerous friends.
A Graveside tribute and committal service will be held at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Easley Cemetery in Gurdon, Arkansas.
I want to climb the hillsides
And to see each wondrous view,
And find the peace I long for there It's all I wish to do,
I want to walk down winding lanes
And see the fields of green,
And smell the pretty flowers
Where the air's so pure and clean.
I just want to change my ways
I need a brand new start,
A country boy at heart.
