In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."
Terry Dionne Giles was born into time on December 6, 1976. He was born to Bertha Mae Giles and Terry Balch in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
Terry was raised in a large family and was better known as Dionne. He was a 1993 graduate of Arkadelphia High School where he excelled as an outstanding basketball player. That gift of playing basketball or “shootn’ hoops” led him to receive a full basketball scholarship.
He later moved to Lansing, Michigan where he worked for the Burlington Coat Factory warehouse.
Dionne was a lover of sports and music. His passion above basketball was his music. He was a rapper and lived by the beat of his own music. He was that cool, laid-back friend who was in tune with the latest trends of the 21st century. He had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger.
In his 36th season, Dionne surrendered his soul on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan; and now he is present with the Lord.
Family, as well as friends, will miss his quiet strength, smile and love, but will never forget his spirit and compassion. He lived life to the fullest, and there was never a dull moment when Dionne was around.
Dionne was welcomed to his eternal home by his mother Bertha Mae (December 21, 2007), his father Terry Balch (May 3, 2011), his brother Jucobbi Balch (August 21, 2011) and his grandparents Willie and Susie Mae Giles, Tyree and Isabella Balch.
He leaves a legacy of love and his memories will be cherished by his children, Marquell D. Giles, Bryisha Giles, Dionne T. Giles, Taylor D. Giles and Tayshawn M. Murray all of Michigan; his siblings Debra (Herman) Monroe of Dallas, TX, James E. (Crystal) Giles of Prescott, AR, Michael Balch of Nashville, AR,, James Terry Balch, Jr., of Brickey, AR, and Vance Dale (Tamesha) Balch of Lansing, MI; six other sisters Faytisa Balch of Little Rock, Kathy Balch, Laura (Pierre) Hunter, Teresa (Gerald) Campbell all of Arkadelphia, AR, Tara (Henry) Smith of Camden, and Tonya (John) Jordan of Virginia Beach, VA; eight other brothers, Anthony Balch, Ethan Balch, Elgin Balch all of Arkadelphia, AR; Timothy Balch of Jacksonville, AR, Torrey-James Balch of Hampton, AR, Eric Traylor, Keith Traylor both of Malvern, AR, and Thurand (Theresa) Flowers of Oklahoma City, OK, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Dionne will lie in repose at the funeral home on Thursday, April 26th from 2:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m.
The last farewell and tributes to his life will be shared on Friday, April 27th at 1:00 p.m. at Eastern Star Baptist Church in the Smithton Community where Rev. Marshall Allen is the pastor. Presiding Elder James H. Giles, Jr., will deliver the message.
