Ecclesiastes 7:1 states, “A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death better than the day of one’s birth.” SSgt Marshall David Montgomery (US Army retired) made a good name for himself. His parents, Lilton David Montgomery and Dorothy Montgomery were proud parents on the day their son, Marshall, was born on December 3, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan. His journey is truly one that should be celebrated. Marshall was proceeded in death by his father, Lilton David Montgomery. Following his father’s footsteps, he served his country by joining the United States Army on November 14, 1967. While in the Army, he received numerous honors, medals, and commendations, such as the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal with silver and two loops, National Defense Service Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon III, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon I, and Marksman Badge (Rifle). He retired after 20 years of dedicated service. He was also a Master Mason and Secretary of the Excelsior Universal Lodge No. 13 of M. W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F.& A.M. of Arkansas. On Sunday, July 15, 2012, in his 65th season, Marshall answered the call that no man can refuse and now rests in the arms of Jesus. Marshall was blessed with a loving and dedicated wife of 38 years, Sunee Montgomery, and 3 beautiful daughters Jacqueline Hass (Robert), Lilly Johnson (Lawrence), and Linda Moss (Hasani). His 13 grandchildren were the apple of his eye: Jaquiya, Raqueline, and Raquiya, Lawrence, Laniah, Lukas, Kendrick, Marshall, James, Hannah, Isaac, Janice, and Janea. He was the oldest of six brothers: Terrence Montgomery (Debra), Norman Montgomery (Tammy), Delbert Montgomery, Lilton Montgomery, and Brad Montgomery (Lolita). He was a great uncle to a host of nieces and nephews. He was a very devoted family man and active in the community. His memory will be cherished. Mr. Montgomery will lie in repose at Williams Funeral Home on Friday, July 20, 2012 from 12:00 noon until 7:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. A home going celebration with Masonic Rights will be held on Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church where Rev. Johnny C. Harris is the pastor and celebrant. Bearers of the casket will be Terrence Montgomery, Norman Montgomery, Delbert Montgomery, Lilton Montgomery, Brad Montgomery and Kendrick Davis. The committal service and final resting place will be in Rose Hedge Cemetery with full military honors. "One by one they pass away, the Brothers of our adoption, the Companions of our choice. A Brother whose hand we have clasped in the bonds of Fraternal Fellowship is now passing from our sight, and we know that we shall meet him on Earth no more."
