It was in the summer of July 2, 1925, at the Knoxville Community of Arkadelphia that Robert and Nora L. Jones Knox welcomed a son; they named him Oddis. He was the last “Knox” of 12 children born to Robert Knox.He was the grandson of Isom Knox, a civil War Veteran.
Oddis confessed his faith in Christ at a tender age. He was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church and attened regularly until he became ill.
Oddis was a quiet manored and cheerful man. He was known around town as "Cutie Knox" by his family and friends.
As a young man he sang in a Quartette with his brothers. During the summer months he spent time working in Colorado and New Mexico in the winter months he worked in Arkadelphia.
Throughout his life he was a devoted and committed husband, father, loving grandfather, great-grandfather, faithful & trusted friend.
Cutie loved to fish and was a hard worker who held a career as a self-employed logger. Family gatherings and being with his friends were always a great source of joy and comfort.
On January 3, 2008, after eighty-two seasons Cutie answered the call that no man can refuse. He was welcomed to his eternal home by his parents and siblings: Robert Knox, Bea Knox, Callie Knox, Lee Knox, Jacob Knox, Christene Knox, Mary J. Newburn, Vasie Gilmore, Zeola Hill, Effie Rogers, Mattie Adams and Josie Newburn; granddaughters, Kenisha Dixon and Jessica Knox.
Those left to cherish his legacy of love & laughter are: his wife, Algie Mae; his children, Elnora & husband, Willie Stephens of Little Rock, AR, Diane & husband, James Johnson of Arkadelphia, Patsy & husband, Thurman Dixon of Missouri City, TX, Tommy & wife, Carolyn Knox of Arkadelphia, Oddis Knox & Joyce of Missouri City, TX, Debra & husband, Emmanuel Carter of Arkadelphia, Rickey & wife, Sandra Knox of Dallas, TX, Kenny & wife, Tonya Knox of Arkadelphia; his steps-sons Eddie Fort of Arkadelphia and Leon & wife Faye Blackmon of Houston, TX; He also helped raise Elosie Blackmon of Hot Springs, AR, and Louvinia Perry of Hot Springs, AR; twenty six grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a caravan of nieces,including a special niece, Ruby Knox of Arkadelphia, nephews, cousins, other relatives, numerous friends and the St. Paul A.M.E Church family.
His pleasant smile, his helping hands and tender heart are gone, but will never be forgotten.
Cutie will lie in state at Williams Funeral Home on Thursday, January 10, 2008 from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
The entire Knox family will greet friends and share with them the Images of Life DVD from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Paul A.M.E Church.
Mrs. Algie Mae and the children will pay their last respect and bid farewell to Mr. Knox on Friday, January 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of St. Paul A.M.E Church where Rev. James H. Giles, Sr., is pastor and will officiate. Dr. James H. Thomas, pastor of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Little Rock will preach the celebration message.
The Committal Service & Final Resting Place will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Active bearers of the casket will be James Johnson, Eddie Fort, Sr., Eddie Fort, Jr., Willie Buckley, Steve Crite, and Barry Fort.
Honorary bearers of the casket will be Tommy Knox, Kenny Knox, Oddis Knox and Rickey Knox.
