Florine D. Jones was born into time on April 27, 1934 in Okolona to Clarie Mae McClure and Ed Dixon
At a tender age she was baptized and accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She attended Simmons High School in Okolona, Arkansas.
She met Willie Jones, II., and to this union three children were born, Willie, III., Travis and Maggie. Later Florine and Freddie Gee created a monster Loretha Gee. Jessie Johnson and Dedrick Johnson were born from the relationship with Eddie Johnson. Her children were the apple of her eye and she made countless sacrifices to raise and provide for her children. Being the mother of six children she knew her way around the kitchen. Florine worked as a cook at Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock for 15 years until her health started to decline. She possessed a strong work ethic and later worked at Baptist Childcare Center for 5 years.
In 1990 Florine moved to Arkadelphia after spending several years in Little Rock. Her first mission was a find a church home. She united with Gennesart Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Charles Hood. She worshiped there for several years where she served dutifully as an usher. She later joined New Generation Church under the leadership of Rev. Charles Hood. Florine was a dedicated member serving in the Mother’s ministry, usher department and Women’s ministry. She was a regular face among both Sunday school and bible study. Her obvious love for children excited her to become a grandmother with the Foster Grandparent Program of the Arkadelphia School District where she lovingly worked at Peake Elementary School and L.M. Goza Jr. High School.
She never met a stranger and always welcomed others into her home. Her greatest joy was being surrounded by the love and laughter of her family. On Tuesday, December 10, 2013 quietly in the comfort of her home she slipped from time into eternity. Florine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Willie Jones; three children, Dedrick Johnson (1993), Travis Jones (1997) and Maggie Jones (2008); and one brother, Bobby Dixon (2012).
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her children, Willie Jones, III., of North Little Rock, AR, Loretha Gee (Kenneth Robinson) of North Little Rock, AR, and Jessie Johnson of Little Rock, AR; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Shirley Dixon of Arkadelphia, AR; Eddie Mae Jackson of Arkadelphia, AR, and Fannie Scott of Arkadelphia, AR; one brother, James (Nancy) Dixon of Little Rock, AR; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Public visitation will be held from 12-4 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the funeral home. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm. at Gennesaret Baptist Church. A celebration of her life will be shared at 11 am on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Gennesaret Baptist Church. Rev. Fredrick Smith will officiate and Rev. Charles Hood will deliver the eulogy. Interment will be in Helms Cemetery.
