Ethel Carolyn Reed passed into the Lord’s embrace on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Courtyard Gardens with her daughters at her bedside. A memorial service to commemorate her life will be held at 5 pm on Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall in Caddo Valley.
Ethel was born on January 16, 1948, in Arkadelphia to the union of John and Gustine Hunter Malone. The family later moved to Michigan where she remained for the most part of her adult life. While in Michigan she was employed at Ford Motor Company. Ethel was blessed to be the mother of four healthy children; Esther, Samuel, Jr., Mattie and David.
She later moved back to Arkadelphia and worked as a certified nurse’s assistant. She joined the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall where she was an active member of the congregation. She enjoyed studying the bible, fishing and cooking. Ethel was an encouragement to everyone she met. Had she tarried longer, everyone would have eventually been a recipient of her wisdom, support, and sense of humor.
Ethel met and married Willie Reed on November 27, 1985. The shared a blissful marriage until his passing. She was also preceded in death by her parents and son David Malone Jackson who passed on March 17, 1994.
She leaves to cherish her memory: three children, Esther Malone of Hot Springs, AR, Samuel Dixon, Jr., of Romulus, MI, and Mattie (Brandon) Harlan of Arkadelphia, AR; eight step-children, Wennessa Reed, Marietta (Phillip) Wright, Willie Reed, Myra (Ronnie) Bailey, Robert (Cassandra) Reed, Steven Reed, Carolyn Reed and Cortney Reed; her grandchildren, Donnie Brown, Demarco Malone, Damore Swanson, Brandi Malone, Davon Malone, Dupree Sawnson, Vicktoria (Michael) Smallwood, Earl Davis, Jr., Niesha Davis, Sharonda Davis, Angela Wilson Dixon and Cynthia Dixon; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lajuan Martin of Bowie, MD, and Dana Martin of St. Louis, MO; three sisters, Najite “Judith” Douglas of Farmington Hill, MI, Denise Martin of St Louis, MO, and Deadyrea Martin of St. Louis, MO; one aunt, Guss Taylor of Willow Run, MI; two uncles, Bennie Blevins of Los Angeles, CA, and Houston Blevins of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; loves leaves a memory no one can steal.
