Ruth Holland, 80, of Gurdon, passed on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 in Curtis, Arkansas. She was born to Robert and Lucy Goshen Laster on August 17, 1933 in Chidester, Arkansas.
Ruth grew up in Camden, Arkansas and was a Baptist. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and worked several years for the Camden School District. Ruth always knew how to make the best out of any dull and bad situation. She was a straight-forward woman and one never had to wonder what was on her mind. She treated everybody the same and was known for “telling it, like it is.” To know her was to love her. Her sense of humor and laugh will be sorely missed. Her goal of life: simple, but not empty.
She was preceded in her passing by her parents; her husband, Carl Holland, Sr.; and four of her siblings, Lenvie Jimmy Laster, Willie Laster, Charlie Laster and Margaret Johnson.
Ruth leaves to cherish her smile and memories in the hearts of her children: Carl (Brenda) Holland, Jr., Keith (Allison) Holland and Anthony (Kathy) Holland all of Cleveland, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Virgil, Keisha, Tiffany, Anthony, Carl, Andre and Aaron; four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She also leaves four sisters, Opal Laster of Gurdon, Dorothy Smith of Dallas, TX, Lorretta (James Tee) Richmond of Chicago, IL and Elsie Weaver of California; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Public visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 from 12 noon until 5:00 p.m. The family will gather and receive friends for an intimate family hour from 11:00 until 12 noon on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at the funeral home.
