Tommy Jones

April 22, 1924 — April 10, 2014

Tommy Jones was born in the small tight nit community of Millcreek near Arkadelphia, Arkansas on April 22, 1924. He was the son of Will and Clara Hughes Jones. He grew up in time when picking cotton and farming the land was the way of life. His parents instilled in him many virtues that led him to be a great son, caring brother, loving husband, and a wonderful father. As a young kid he joined Piney Grove AME Church. He later became a member of New Bethel Baptist Church. Tommy met Genoa Summerville and their courtship blossomed into a fruitful marriage July 23, 1946 that lasted 50 years until her passing on Tuesday, November 6, 2007. The Lord added to their union four children, Harold, Elizabeth, Arie and Phillips. He was a retired employee of Reynolds Metal Company, where he worked as a Pin Driver. Tommy enjoyed fishing and hunting and horse racing but his greatest times were spent with his children and grandchildren. Tommy was a fun-loving man who had a warm and big heart. His children and grandchildren centered much of their lives caring and attending to his needs. Tommy passed from time into eternity on Thursday, April 10, 2014, after 89 seasons of life. He was preceded in transition by his parents and his beloved Genoa. He leaves his memory etched in the hearts of his children: Harold Jones of Arkadelphia, Elizabeth Jones of Arkadelphia, Arie Lee (James) Craigg of Arkadelphia, Phillips T. (Kim) Jones of Washington, Kizzia Jones of Alexander, AR, a special daughter Dorothy Hutcherson of Malvern, AR; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Carter of Sparkman, AR and Maggie J. Culmore of St. Louis, MO, and one brother, Luther Jones of Arkadelphia, AR; three sisters-in-law, Flossie Summerville of Arkadelphia,  Mattie Butler of Lansing, MI and Geneva Fluewellen of Beaumont, TX: a brother-in-law, Eddie L. (Ella) Summerville of Arkadelphia and a caravan of nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 18th from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  A celebration to thanksgiving for his life will be shared at 1:00 p.m. at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Saturday, April 19th. Rev. J. L. Newborn will deliver the message. Interment will be in Piney Grove Cemetery.
