As we retrace the footprints of Scellers Charles Mitchell, we can only give thanks for the many lives he enriched along life’s journey. A strong, and quite young man, he was blessed to enjoy many of God’s blessings as a son, a brother, a husband, a father, grandfather, uncle and a trusted friend.
On October 22, 1964, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Dorothy White Mitchell welcomed the birth of one of the joys of her life, Scellers Charles Mitchell, known to many as Charles. Charles accepted Christ at a young age and joined up with Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He loved music and joking around with his families and friends. Charles was a 1984 graduate of Arkadelphia High School.
He lived life to the fullest and as a source of providing for his family he seeked employment with Scroll Technologies in Gum Springs, Arkansas.
On December 20, 1991, Charles married the love of his life, Laverne Berry, making their home in Gurdon.
On Friday, September 5, 2014, Charles traded time for eternity. He was preceded in his passing by his father, Dan Mitchell (1974) and one of his sisters, Zeola Noel (2010).
Charles memory has left indelible impressions in the hearts and minds of his wife, Laverne Berry Mitchell, his children, LaTasha and Chauncey Charles of Texarkana and Jaden Berry of Gurdon, one grandchild, Angel Nowden, his mother, Dorothy Mitchell of Arkadelphia, his siblings, Mary and Charles McClure of Curtis, J. T. and Brenda Mitchell of Little Rock, Chester Sr. and Althea Elaine Mitchell and Thurlin Mitchell, all of Arkadelphia.; one aunt, Helen Knox of flint, Michigan, special nephews and nieces, Chester Mitchell, Jr., Jabraylin Garland, Zamari Haynie, Angela Dickerson, and Kanonna Berry and a caravan of other nephews, nieces , relatives and friends.
Public visitation Friday, September 12, 2014 at the funeral home 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. with family hour 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
A service celebrating the life of Mr. Mitchell will be held Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Davis Temple Memorial Church Of God In Christ in Arkadelphia, Elder Benny Johnson, pastor and officiant. Elder Chester Mitchell, Sr., eulogist. Cremation services will be provided by Williams Funeral Home.
