A new life’s journey began on January 12, 1966, when Lucille Dixon Roy and Jerry Lee Roy celebrated the birth of their 2nd child, a daughter they named Shirley Marie Roy. She was born in Dallas, Texas and raised by her grandparents Ozie and Luella Page in Willisville, a small yet friendly community; where everybody knew everybody.
At a young age she was accepted Christ as her personal Savior. “Earl” as she was affectionately called by her grandfather, grew up to be a caring, loveable and independent young woman. She was a believer in “treating others, as you would have them to treat you”. Shirley was a 1984 graduate of Oak Grove High School in Rosston, Arkansas. She was always voted as the “Best Dressed”. She furthered her studies at Eastfield Community College where she received as Associate of Applied Science degree in Culinary Arts. She worked as a substitute teacher in Hope Public School District for 4 years. Her passion in life was keeping the family together and to keep everyone laughing. Shirley was a member of Crossroads Church of God In Christ in Chidester, Arkansas. She served as assistant announcement clerk for the district and local churches.
She married Sebron Young and to this union Sebron, Gerry’ke and Gabriel were born. Her babies were the apples of her eye. To know her was to love her. Her irreplaceable presence will be missed, but her sweet smile, and friendly voice will never be forgotten. On Friday, January 23, 2015, she passed into the Lord’s embrace surrounded by her loved ones. Shirley was welcomed home by her daughter Krystal Roy (1982), her grandparents Ozie Page (2014), Luella Page and Marie Madison.
She leaves an abundance of love and memories with her husband, Sebron Young of Dallas, TX; her parents, Lucille Shepherd of Rosston, AR; her father, Jerry L.
