On January 8, 1934, Zonetta and James “Jocko” Walker were blessed with their third and youngest daughter, Barbara Lynne Walker, in Omaha, Nebraska. She accepted Christ at an early age and modeled the golden rule of life in treating people as you would have them to treat you. In her youth she participated in various clubs (4-H Club) and sports (tennis).Barbara was smart, intelligent and witty. She was a 1953 graduate if Central High School in Omaha and a member of The Church of the Living God. She later moved to California at the age of 18 where she met Glenn Taylor and two years later, they were married on September 26, 1953.
She was a former employee of John Wesley Hospital in California. Barbara was a firm believer and supporter of volunteering. She was an activePTA member of the Los Angeles Unified School District active for nearly twenty years of her children’s and grandchildren’s school years.
Glen and Barbara later moved to Arkadelphia. She volunteered in Arkadelphia’s Perritt Elementary School for over ten years. Barbara was a member of Glenn's high school Dunbar Class of 1950 and attended St. Paul AME occasionally. She was outgoing, outspoken and a trusted friend. She was very supportive to all her children.Barbara lived a full life of 81 years and passed into the Lord’s embrace Friday, November 13, 2015. She was preceded in death by her parents Zonetta and James Walker, and her eldest sister, Shirley Walker-Nichols.
Barbara leaves her husband on 61 years, Glenn Taylor; her children, Kevin Glenn Taylor I; Glenda Lynette Taylor, and Nyra Suzette Taylor-Lewis; five grandchildren: Terre’ M. Gipson (Decease); Kevin G. Taylor II; LaKeisha Taylor, Johnathan G. Lewis; and Natalie L. Lewis; and two great-granddaughters; one sister, Norma Ruth Walker-Goodwin, and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and dear and close friends.
An evening of remembrance will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at St. Paul AME Church. Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. until 5:45 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church
