Ivory "I. V." Young

The path of this life’s journey began with birth of Ivory Young on July 21, 1944, in Whelen Springs, Arkansas. He was the son of Odie and Artie Bell Cook Young. During his early childhood, he gave his life to Christ and united with the Springhill Baptist Church family in Whelen Springs, Arkansas. I. V., as he was affectionately called had a great sense of humor and never met a stranger. I. V. worked as a logger for Currey’s Logging Company for several years. He will be sorely missed by his family, as well as, friends. In I. V.’s 64th season his life’s journey ended on Friday, March 20, 2009, at Medical Park Hospital in Hope, Arkansas. Those awaiting his arrival and to welcome him home are his mother and father, Odie & Artie Bell Young; three brothers Odie Young, Jr., Alvin Young, Marvell Young and his infant sister Verdia Mae Young. His sense of humor, character and smile will be forever cherished by six beautiful daughters; Loretta (Randy) Marks of Curits, AR, Pamela (Lucious) Paden of Sparkman, AR, Alberta (Julius) Mckintosh of Hot Springs, AR, Lavonda Young of Gurdon, AR, Vanesha Young of Gurdon, AR, and Annie (Marvis) of Oklahoma; three handsome sons, Ivory , Jr. (Felicia) of Griffithtown, AR, Robert (Vickie) Young of Demmen, New Mexico and David Young of Gurdon, AR; one sister, Mary Alice (Dennis) Walker of Gurdon, AR; seven brothers, Ozell (Willia Mae) Young of Blythville, AR, Calvin (Gwen) Young of Rockford, IL, Eddie Lee (Mag) Young of Fort Wayne, IN, Alfonzo Charles (Delia) Young of Prescott, AR, Freddie (Glenee) Young of Los Angeles, CA, Raymond Lee (Diana) Young of Prescott, AR, and Charlie Ray Young of Helena, AR. He also leaves three aunts, Josephine Hill of Camden, AR, Hattie Brewer of Little Rock, AR, Irene Young of Prescott, AR, and one uncle Paul Young of Los Angeles, CA, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and numerous friends. You may visit Mr. Young and view the Images of Life DVD at the funeral home on Friday, March 27, 2009, from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. The last farewell and final goodbye will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church in Gurdon where Rev. Johnny Harris is pastor. His brother Rev. Charles Young the pastor of Sweet Home Baptist Church in Prescott, Arkansas will preach the celebration message. The committal service and final resting place will be at Springhill Cemetery in Whelen Springs, Arkansas. The bearers of the casket will be James Miller, Andy Bell, Harold Dickens, Randy Bell, Frederick Young and Hosea Walker. The honorary bearers of the casket will be David Young, Eddie Wayne Young, Robert Young, Douglas Walker, Ivory Young and Mack Turner.
