Dewey “Blitt” Davis came into this world on February 2, 1936, in Clark County, Arkansas. He was the son of Liza Jane Brim and Roosevelt Davis, Sr.
During his early childhood, he gave his life to Christ and united with the Piney Grove AME Church family.
He was a graduate of Peake High School. He later moved to Omaha, Nebraska, then to Chicago where he worked as a housekeeping supervisor for Hilton Hotel in Chicago.
Dewey had two great loves, playing the piano and singing. Early on he realized his gift and talent was the ministry of music. Dewey was a talented pianist and singer known throughout Arkansas and the Chicago area. He was most noted for his imfamous rendention of “Sweet Home.”
Dewey had a loving spirit, great sense of humor and never met a stranger. Though he never had any children of his own he cherished his nephew, Willie Reed as his son.
He was a fighter until the end and in his 73rd season Dewey’s journey ended on Friday, March 20, 2009, at Thorek Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
Those awaiting his arrival and to welcome him home are his mother and father, Liza Jane Brim and Roosevelt “ Yobe” Davis, Sr., his sisters, Venita Thornton, Mary Jean Roberts and his brother, R. J. Bullock.
His sense of humor, smile, and music will be forever cherished by his god-son, Willie Reed of Chicago, IL; nine sisters, Marie Reed, Jo Ann Bullock, Margaret Bullock, Nelda Bullock, Seavada Berry, and Clinton (James) Campbell all of Arkadelphia; Rena Mae Burroughs of Ypsilanti, MI, Cynthia Henson of Kansas City, MO, Nolie Cal (Roosevelt) Claxton of Detroit, MI; three brothers; Roosevelt (Sylvia) Davis of Gum Springs, Roland (Carolyn) Bullock of Prescott and Bennie (Gweneva) Jones of Arkadelphia.
He also leaves in God’s care one aunt, Alberta Reed of Arkadelphia, AR; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and numerous friends.

A Rejoicing Service of Thanksgiving for the life of Dewey “Blitt” Davis will held on Friday, March 27, 2009 at 12 noon in the sancturay of Piney Grove AME Church where Rev. G. E. Guinn is the pastor. Elder G. C. Nolen the pastor of Manchester COGIC will preach the celebration message.
The Committal service and final resting place will be in Piney Grove Cemetery.
The bearers of the casket will be Damien Bragg, Greg Reed, Jerry Owens, Michael Campbell, Robert Reed, Kenneth Campbell and Wesley Wright.
Honorary beaers will be Luther Jones, LynnJackson, Herman Jones, Jerry Browning and Carl Daniels.
