Lue Ella Tatum

December 3, 1921 — March 30, 2009

O rapturous scenes that wait the day when Thou shall call me home. When I shall here no longer stay, no longer weep and mourn. Hallelujah the race is run - eternal life is gained, My happiness has just begun, the crown of life obtained. Lue Ella Wright, the daughter of Jack Hunter and Fannie Jones was born into time on December 3, 1921 in Sparkman, Arkansas. She lived a faithful life with Christ and a commitment to serve her community. She lived her life by the teaching of her parents, a good name is rather to be chosen than great riches; and a loving favor rather than silver and gold. She became Mrs. Lue Ella Tatum when she married the handsome Walter Tatum and to this union three sons were born, Walter Lee John Lee and Joe Charles. Lue Ella recognized and accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She was a faithful member of St. Paul A.M.E. where she served faithfully and dutifully as an Usher. She worked as a foster grandparent at the Children’s Colony, now the Arkadelphia Human Development Center until her retirement. To know her, was to love her and she will be deeply missed. On Monday, March 30, 2009, in her 87th season submissive to the will of God, she surrendered her soul to Christ at the Golden Living Center in Arkadelphia. Those awaiting her arrival are her parents, her beloved Walter Tatum; two sisters, Geraldine Gooden, Josephine Perry; five brothers, Elijah Wright, Richmond C. Wright, Daniel Hunter, Jack Hunter and Theo Jones. She leaves lasting impressions in the hearts of her children; John and his wife Jo Etta Tatum of Arkadelphia, AR; Joe Charles Tatum of Muskegon, MI; seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one sister Emma McNair of St. Louis, MO. She also will be missed by a host of other relatives, numerous friends and the St. Paul AME Church family. You may visit Mrs. Tatum on Thursday April 2nd from 12:00 noon am until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family will greet and receive friends fro 6-7 p.m. A Service of Remembrance & Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2009, in the sanctuary of St. Paul A.M.E. Church where Dr. James H. Giles, Sr., is the pastor and will deliver the celebration message. The committal service & earthly resting place will be in Piney Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve respectively as active bearers of the casket. Honorary bearers will be the Stewards of St. Paul A.M.E. Church.
