Phillip "Phil" Jewel Hill

January 6, 1938 — November 16, 2015

Phillip “Phil” Jewel Hill began his journey on January 6, 1938 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He was the youngest child of the late John B. Hill and Ada Bell Wilson Hill. He was a 1955 graduate of Peake High School. He along with four others were the first African Americans to attend Henderson State Teachers College in the under graduate level in the fall of 1955. Phillip later entered the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1967. He served for several years. Phillip moved to Chicago, Illinois and lived there until he relocated to St. Louis, Missouri in 1985.He was a sports enthusiast and an avid fisherman. His enjoyment was to return to Arkansas to fish. His favorite baseball team was the Los Angeles Dodgers and his close friends were well aware of this. He loved all types of music and he was a great lover of dogs. Although Phillip had no children of his own; he cherished his family. He was a dear son, brother, cousin and friend. Phillip’s parents; one sister, Theodosia Walker; his three brothers, John Douglas, David OD and Charles Russell preceded him in death. He leaves to mourn his death: one sister, Lucinda Marie Homes; two nieces, Cassandra Alane Hill and Pamela D. Grayson; two nephews, John Sugar and Raymond Jackson and many cousins and friends.
