Phillip Allen was born June 4, 1938 in Beirne, Arkansas to the union of Charlie and Vera Roberts Allen. He attended Bell High School in Gurdon and worked as a logger with Roland Kelly Logging until he retired. Phillip married Johnnie Lee Lofton and together they shared many wonderful years together until her passing on January 12, 2001. He was a true family man and made sure that the needs of his family were always met. He was a great father-figure and role model to many. He enjoyed the simple things life offered and learned how to “laugh it off”. With his big smile and hearty laugh he could make the darkest day brighter. He was a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church. Phillip loved to fish and watch wrestling. He gained much respect in the community for his straight-forwardness and true friendship. Had he lived longer many more would have been a recipient of his advice and wisdom. On Monday, December 21, 2015 he passed from this life. He is preceded in death by his parents; his cherished wife, Johnnie Lee; his son, Michael Allen (1996); sisters, Augustine Gulley and Celementine Sorrells; brothers, Bobby Ray Allen, Ivory Joe Allen, Charlie James Allen, Houston Allen and Ray Allen. Although his passing leaves a void in the lives of those he touched, his memory will live on forever. Phillip leaves behind to cherish his memory: six children, Ray Alexander Thomas of Chicago, IL, Doretha Hopson of Little Rock, AR, Mattie Michelle Norman (Vic) of Little Rock, AR, Larry Washington (Yvette) of Little Rock, AR, Thomas Allen of Gurdon, AR, and Bob Allen of Dayton, OH; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Vera Dean Nelson of Ashdown, AR and Barbara Ann Williams of Ashdown, AR and one brother, Tommy Allen (Janice) of Gurdon, AR. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, his best friend, Freddie Hunter of Gurdon, AR and several other friends. Services will be held at 11 a.m. at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 with Rev. Johnny Harris, officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29, 2015 from 12 noon until 6 p.m. Interment will be at Shady Grove Cemetery in Beirne, Arkansas.
