Linda K. Hale

March 27, 1960 — February 14, 2016

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die.” Ecclesiastes 3:1-2 Linda K. Hale was born into time on March 27, 1960, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She grew up in Arkadelphia surrounded by the love of her parents, Eddie L. and Cordelia Ross Summerville, and a large family of sisters and brothers. As a kid, Linda showed her compassion towards any and everything. Her family knew right away that Linda would be the type of person who would put others before herself. “Pokey”, the nickname given to her by her grandmother, was full of life. Linda was a 1979 graduate of Arkadelphia High School where she excelled as a student and was a member of the high school social group “Ladies of Light”. She grew up to be a loving, kind and intelligent young woman. She began a long and fulfilling career in nursing as a certified nurse’s assistant. Shortly after high school she started working at Riverwood Nursing Home. She was meticulous and used patience in caring for the residents. Her timeliness and dedication caught the attention of the administration and nursing staff. She later worked for Courtyard Gardens until her health began to fail. Linda met Corwin Cleaves and their relationship spanned over 20 years. Although they had no children of their own, Corwin loved Shavon as his own daughter and together they raised Jada as their daughter. She joined Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on March 11, 2012 under the leadership of Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd, Jr., and attended when she could. Linda possessed a sweet spirit. She enjoyed hanging with her girls and having a girl’s night out. She loved to dance, laugh and have good clean fun. Linda was always ready for a road trip and loved to travel. Some of the happiest days of her life were taking care of her grandchildren. The sun set on Linda’s life Sunday, February 14, 2016. As we retrace the footprints of Linda’s life we can only give thanks for the many lives she touched and enriched along life’s journey. She was preceded in death by her brother, Michael Summerville who made his transition on August 6, 2015. Those left to forever cherish her love, sense of humor and laughter are: her companion and caregiver, Corwin Cleaves; two children, Shavon L. Hale and Jada Summerville both of Arkadelphia, AR; two grandchildren, Ke’Asia Tilson and James Duvall, Jr., both of Arkadelphia, AR; her parents, Cordelia Ross-Summerville and Eddie L. (Ella) Summerville of Arkadelphia; five sisters, Pauline (Meredith) Lemons of Hot Springs, Queen Givens, Malasena Summerville, Michelle Summerville and Lameka Chatmon all of Arkadelphia; two brothers, Eddie (Teresa) Summerville of Arkadelphia and Ken Ross of Hot Springs, AR. She also leaves her extended family Charles and Betty Wesson of Altheimer, AR, her aunts, uncles, several nieces, nephews, cousins, friends; her best friends, Claudetta Golden, Donna Buckley and Linda Gulley. A celebration of her life will be shared at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd, Jr., officiating/eulogist. Interment will be in Richmond Hill Cemetery. Public visitation will be from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 19, 2016 and the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
