Gertrude Moore Scott was born on March 15, 1913 in Calhoun County, Arkansas to the union of Alfred and Emily Moore. She attended school and received her eighth grade diploma. Gertrude loved learning and even though she had to miss many days of school to “chop” and “pick” cotton, she was determined to obtain her education. She confessed her faith in Christ at a tender age and was an active member of the Church of Christ in Fordyce, Arkansas. She married Elijah Scott in 1993 and they remained a happy couple until his passing. Gertrude preached kindness, respect of self and others. She loved reading the bible and singing. She took advantage of every chance to explain parts of the bible. Her home was the center for great food. She was a great cook and specialized in baking 3 and 4 layer cakes. She was known by her family and friends to be a lover of tootsie roll pops, Root Beer and Dr. Pepper soft drinks. At the age of 103 she was spry and up until her swift transition she was laughing and talking. On Monday, May 9, 2016, she peacefully slipped the bonds of this life. Her passing shall be filled with rejoicing for a life well lived. Her love and devotion was shared by six children: Ida Mae Harris of Thornton, AR, Curtis (Alice) Brown of Camden, AR, Sletie (L.J.) Smith of Houston, TX, George E. (Mary) Brown of Ivan, AR, Cardell (Ruby) Brown of Fordyce, AR, and Stella (George) Neal of Fordyce, AR, innumerable grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She also leaves a multitude of nieces, nephews, as well as other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elijah Scott and four children; Bobby Brown, Ezell Brown, Ola Mae Brown and Osie Lee Brown. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ, Hwy 167 North in Fordyce, Arkansas 71742 with Bro. Larry Hall, officiating and Bro. Greg Golden and Bro. Kevin Ware, eulogist. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in Dixon Cemetery.
