Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust; in sure and certain hope of the Resurrection into eternal life. Russell Lewis, commonly known as “Pumpkin” slept into the Lords’ embrace on Monday, April 25, 2016. He passing reminds us that life is unsure, but death is certain. He was born on March 27, 1940 in Petersburg, Virginia to Howard and Lille Brown Lewis. Though small in stature, Pumpkin had a big heart and never met a stranger. A natural born outdoorsman; he loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed the trail rides. He was a logger and a baptist. He often attended Macedonia Baptist Church in Sparkman, Arkansas. He will be forever missed by Jackie Bragg, his caregiver and friend of Sparkman AR, Charles Allen, his caregiver and friend of Little Rock, AR; his children, Russell Lewis, Jr., of Pittsburg, PA, Dorrie Spencer of Richmond, VA and Mykel Lewis of Las Vegas, NV. He also leaves four grandchildren; his sisters, Idella Gray of Newport, VA and Doris Graham of Baltimore, MD; and a host of extended family members and friends. His wishes were to be cremated and scattered. Pumpkin “did it his way” and lived life to the fullest. Life simple but not empty.
