Roosevelt Knox

April 10, 1934 — June 6, 2009

God’s child Roosevelt was born into time on April 10, 1934 in Winnsboro, Louisiana child of Avery Knox & Mary Jane Jones. During his early childhood, he gave his life to Christ and united with the Pleasant Hill AME Church family. Roosevelt had a loving spirit, great sense of humor and never met a stranger. On April 28, 1964 Roosevelt married Zella Mae Murchison and the Lord blessed this union with four children; DeWayne Edward (Angela) Knox of Arkadelphia, AR; Felisha Kaye McCaster of St. Louis, MO, Anita Lynn (Michael) Hatley of Little Rock, AR, and Frederick Lane (Beverly) Knox of Benton, AR. Also added to this union was a step-daughter, Lois Ann (Lamar) Williams of Gurdon, AR. whom he cherished as his own. Roosevelt was a faithful employee of Henderson State University and retired in 1995 after twenty plus years of service. After retirement he later moved to Michigan and joined Second Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a usher. In 2004 he married Helen Virginia White and this union added two step-children Virginia Inez Marks and David Neal Thompson. He found comfort and joy in fishing and gardening. He was that warm hand on a cold morning; that voice of wisdom and reason when the world was upside-down; that vessel of hope that carried loved ones and friends safely across rivers of change in their lives. Trusting in God’s word “Be thou faithful until death and I will give thee a crown of life.” and in his 75th season, Roosevelt answered the call that no man can refuse. He was born into eternity on Saturday, June 6, 2009, at Hurley Medical Center in Flint, Michigan. Those awaiting his arrival and to welcome him home are his mother and father, two sisters, Thelma Knox, Margaret Williams, and one infant son, Roosevelt Knox, Jr. His life & legacy will be forever cherished by five brothers, Richard (Allene) Knox and Fred Douglas (Mary) Knox both of Orange, TX, James Hosea (Martha) Bullock of Belleville, MI, Author (Carrie) Bullock of Ypsilanti, MI, Themis (Cleora) Knox; nine sisters, Seneva Hunter and Zelma Knox of Joan AR, Geneva King and Kathleen Knox of Arkadelphia, AR, Annette (Londell) Middleton of Gum Springs, AR, Martha (Lester) Newborn of Malvern, AR, Flora D.
