David Allen Jones

On December 24, 1959, Booker T. and Annie Mae Jones received the greatest Christmas gift when they celebrated the birth of a son they named David Allen. During his early childhood, he gave his life to Christ and united with the Christ Temple Holiness Church family. David had a loving spirit, great sense of humor and never met a stranger. He learned quickly if he was going to hang with his father, Booker T. he had to be tough, cool and know how to get the job done. David was a 1978 graduate of Arkadelphia High School, where he not only excelled as a student, but as an athlete participating in football, basketball and track. David worked in the maintenance department at Henderson State University for several years. Often you could catch David walking or riding his bike as he went to fix a door, cut a tree, or trim somebody's hedges. He was known not only in the community as a “Maintenance Man” but his family always called on him to fix something. David found joy in helping others and doing the things that one couldn't do. David loved the life he lived, and lived the life he loved. In his 50th season on Friday, June 25, 2009 he slept away from this world only to wake up in eternity where he was greeted by his father, Booker T. Jones and his grandparents. His life, laughter and his handy-work will be forever cherished by his wife, Rose Gayle Jones of Arkadelphia, his mother, Annie M. Jones of Arkadelphia; his daughter Joselyn Jones of Topeka, KS; three sisters, Lottie Ware & Kenny Hamlin of Arkadelphia, Veronica (Gary) Moore of Arkadelphia, Stephanie Thomas & Bradford Bragg of Arkadelphia; one brother, Samuel T. (Nita) Jones of Arkadelphia; one aunt, Sandra Bryant of Arkadelphia; two uncles, Roy Gray of Arkadelphia, and Willie Moss of San Diego, CA. He also leaves in God’s care four step-children, Brandon Giles of Minnesota, Shelby McClure of Arkadelphia, Theresa Ware of Arkadelphia and Shalanda Crite of Arkadelphia; eleven grandchildren and one great grand child, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives. Mr. Jones will lie in state Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. and the family will receive friends and share with them the Images of Life DVD from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The Last Farewell will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday in Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd, Jr., is the pastor. Rev. Ron Sasser the pastor of Christ Temple Holiness Church will preach the celebration message. The committal service and final resting place will be in Shady Grove Cemetery. Bearers of the casket will be David Crockett, John Sanders, Andre Adams, William King, Lewis Duncan and Craig Green. Special thanks to Dr. Lewis A.
