DeWitt Bailey came into this world on October 7, 1937 in Okolona, Arkansas. He was the son of Willie and Bulah Livingston Bailey.
During his early childhood, he gave his life to Christ and united with the St. John Baptist Church family in Whelen Springs, Arkansas.
He attended Bell High School in Gurdon, Arkansas. On May 1, 1956 he enlisted in the US Army. He was employed as a truck driver.
DeWitt had a loving spirit, great sense of humor and never met a stranger.
He was a fighter until the end and in his 71st season DeWitt’s journey ended on Monday, September 7, 2009, at Prescott Manor Nursing Home in Prescott, Arkansas.
His sense of humor, and smile will be forever cherished by his son, Stanley Bailey and his wife, Sue of Lansing, MI; one grandson, Chancellor Bailey of Lansing, MI; two sisters, Dorothy Phifer of St. Louis, MO, and Willie Mae Benson of San Francisco, CA; two brothers, Frank Bailey of Malvern, AR, and Joe Bailey of Arkadelphia, AR.
He also leaves in God’s care one aunt, Alberta Gentry of Okolona, AR; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and numerous friends.
A tribute to his life will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the J. L. Williams Memorial Chapel at Williams Funeral Home. Dr. James H. Giles, Sr., will inspire words of comfort.
The Committal service and final resting place will be in Holly Grove Cemetery.
