Ruth Simpson

May 25, 1932 — September 16, 2009

Oh that I had wings like a dove, for then I would fly away, and be at rest. Psalm 55:6 On May 25, 1932, in Vaden, Arkansas Willie and Leatha Vaden Simpson welcomed into this world twin baby girls, they named one Ruth. Ruth accepted Christ at a young age and united with the Church of Living God where she was a faithful member serving as an Usher and Church Mother. Ruth attended Bell High School in Gurdon and worked at Gurdon Primary School. Her favorite pastime included cooking, cleaning, but most of all serving the Church of the Living God. She was a part of that generation that counted motherhood as a virtue because mothers knew the difference between a house and home. She was a loving spirit who cared for her child, grandchild and assisted her siblings in raising her nieces and nephews. So her golden accomplishment in life was to make a loving home that would produce a tapestry of memories her family would forever cherish. She was that warm hand on a cold morning; that voice of wisdom and reason when the world was upside-down; that vessel of hope that carried loved ones and friends safely across rivers of change in their lives and that prayerful servant who blessed the Lord at all times. Ruth was a cheerful woman who never met a stranger and in her 77th season on Tuesday September 16, 2009 with her family at her bedside she took flight to her eternal home in heaven. Throughout her life she was a devoted and committed mother, loving grandmother, faithful & trusted friend. She was welcomed to her eternal home by her parents, five siblings, Ida S. Reed, Ivory Simpson, Gertie Simpson, Willie H. Simpson, and a baby brother. Those left to cherish her legacy of love & laughter are: her daughter, Maxine Simpson of Gurdon, AR; grandson, Jason (Deneshia) of Fayetteville, AR; six sisters, Ruby Govan of Malvern, AR, Dorothy Boga of Arkadelphia, AR, Ethel Gilliam of Sacramento, CA, Willie Mae Woodson of Jamaica, NY; Charlene Adams of Jamaica, NY, Lonnie (Raymond) Gould of Arkadelphia, AR; two brothers, Willie (Daisy) Simpson, Sr., of Sparkman, AR, and Delton Simpson of Arkadelphia, AR; a caravan of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a community of friends who will forever miss her caring nature, love and smile. Ms. Simpson will lie in state at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. unil 7:00 p.m. and the family will meet friends and share with them the Images of Life DVD from 6-7 p.m. A Celebration of Her Life will be held Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary of Church of the Living God Pillar and Ground of the Truth where Bishop Roosevelt Pigg is the pastor. Bishop Roosevelt Pigg and Chief Bishop R. T. Turner will inspire words of comfort. The committal service and final resting place will be in Vaden Cemetery.
