Kentrell Demond “Speedy” McClelland was the second born son of Kenneth McClelland and Tatrina Cooks-McClelland. He was born on September 12, 1995 at Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia, AR. He was a member of Carrie St. Church of God where Reverend Ivory Curry is the pastor. Kentrell dedicated his life to Christ at a young age and was baptized on May 18, 2008. He was an active member in the church where he was a willing participant in the choir. Two of his favorite songs to sing were “Hold On” and “On My Way Home”. Kentrell made his transition from his earthly home on October 2, 2017. Kentrell attended Gurdon Public Schools where he excelled academically as well as excelling in football, basketball, track, and baseball. Because of his quickness, he was well known by many as “Speedy”. His mother, although she did not know exactly who gave him the nickname, continued to call him by that name every single day. He was a member of Gurdon High School Close-Up program where he was afforded the opportunity to visit our nation’s capital in Washington, DC. He graduated from Gurdon High School with the Class of 2013. After high school, he attended University of Central Arkansas in Conway, AR and later transferred to Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR. Throughout his high school and college years, he was very popular, and will forever be remembered for his big smile, his loud laugh, and his great sense of humor. Kentrell also had a huge passion for animals and would embrace them all like they were his own. Kentrell was preceded in death by his sister Kenitia McClelland, his paternal grandparents Harvey McClelland, Sr. and Artha Lee McClelland, and his uncle Stanley McClelland, Sr. His memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of his father and mother; brother, Keonta’ McClelland of Gurdon and his sister Kyla McClelland of Dallas, TX; his grandparents, Emma (Nehemiah) Hardamon of Gurdon, AR and Bernard (Jackie) Cooks of Texarkana, TX; his aunts, Talitha (Greg) Harvell of Gurdon, AR, Lola (Carlos) Pile of Murrieta, CA, Beverly McClelland of Gurdon, AR, Kay Moore and Damita (Oscar) Marks of McKinney, TX, and his uncles, Tareze Williams of Gurdon, AR, David McClelland of Melissa, TX, Shawn McClelland of Dallas, TX, and Harvey McClelland, Jr. of Houston, TX. Kentrell will continually live in the hearts of his cousins who were raised together with him like siblings: Reginald Cooks, Racheal Porter, Shakoya Williams, Alia Williams, and Hayleigh Cooks, as well as in the hearts of numerous relatives and friends. He was also loved and will be missed dearly by long-time family friend, David Young.
