Clemon Gentry was born on June 28, 1927 in Antoine, Arkansas to Clib and Ida Moore Gentry. He grew up in Pike County where he spent his youth, having worked his first job at the age of thirteen in the pulp wood industry. As a young teenager he relocated to Little Rock, Arkansas. He had an early love for the scriptures and obeyed the gospel by being baptized in the Church of Christ. He received his GED and certification in electronic and television repair. As his love grew he developed a love for ministry. He also developed a love for the beautiful Pearline Muldrew. After an appropriate period of courtship they were married on July 6, 1951 and their union was blessed with six handsome sons. They began a sweet life together devoted to the Lord and one another. They shared 66 beautiful years of marriage until his passing. Upon getting married he began to preach the gospel in and around the central Arkansas area. He preached for the 15th Street Church of Christ as the minister and interim minister on several occasions. Clemon always had a word from on high. He preached on street corners, at service stations, grocery stores and for Church of Christ congregations in Antoine, England, Sweet Home and Russellville. He was sought after to help develop and train other preachers. Clemon was a hard worker making him a greater provider for his family. He worked several jobs including the railroad, Choctaw, Bale Chevrolet and in the pulpwood industry. He was an ardent supporter of the political process and was very active in the community. He was the true measure of a man; an inspiration to many and a natural born encourager. In his 90th season of life he passed on Friday, November 17, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Eddis Gentry, Laruth Williams, AD Gentry and Estee Gentry. He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Pearline Gentry of Arkadelphia; six sons, Clemon (Rose) Gentry, Jr., of Arkadelphia, Cornelius (Betholyn) Gentry of Little Rock, AR, Joe (Diann) Gentry of Desoto, TX, James (Phyllis) Gentry of Little Rock, AR, John (Adrianne) Gentry of Youngstown, OH and Jacob Gentry of Honolulu, HI; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Cleo Muldrew and Mary Gilbert, as well as, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends George (Mariam) Hopkins and numerous other friends. The family will celebrate his life at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at the Church of Christ, 1701 Pine St. in Arkadelphia with his sons Bro. James Gentry, officiating and Bro. Cornelius Gentry, eulogist. The family will greet and receive friends Saturday from 10 am until service time. Interment will be at Harrison Chapel Cemetery in Delight, Arkansas. His six sons will serves are pallbearers respectively.
