On August 1, 1931, Myrtle Sue and William Taylor were blessed with the birth of their third and youngest son, Glenn Lee Taylor, in El Dorado, Arkansas. He accepted Christ at an early age and modeled the golden rule of life in treating people as you would have them to treat you. In his youth he participated in band (he played the trumpet) and sports (track and boxing). Glenn was witty, intelligent, a good storyteller, and a hard worker as he apprenticed in his father’s cleaners. He was a 1950 graduate of Dunbar High School and a member of The First A.M.E. Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. At the age of 17, Glenn enlisted in the United States Air Force. While stationed in Omaha, Nebraska, he attended a military ball where he met the love of his life, Barbara Lynn Walker. Two years later, on September 26, 1954, they were married. The newlyweds relocated to Chicago for 8 years before moving on to Los Angeles, California in 1962. Out of this union they were blessed with three children; Kevin, Glenda, and Nyra. Glenn worked for Hughes Aircraft in Culver City, California where he retired after 27 years. In 1992, he and Barbara Lynn moved to his hometown of Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Glenn was a Steward and he taught Men’s Bible study classes at St. Paul A.M.E. Church. Glenn loved fishing, archery, hunting (such as deer and rabbit), and in past times he and Barbara would take his boat out on the lake for a day or relaxation. He loved the Lord and his church, he was a devoted family man, a great friend, and a charitable neighbor. Glenn lived a full life of 86 years and passed into the Lord’s embrace Tuesday, January 9, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; his son Kevin; his grandson, Terre’ Gipson; his parents William and Myrtle Sue Taylor; his middle brother, Edward “Bubba” and his eldest brother, William “Bill.” Glenn leaves to cherish his memories his daughters, Glenda Taylor and Nyra Taylor-Lewis; his grandson Kevin Taylor II, his granddaughters, LaKeisha Taylor and Natalie Lewis; and grandson, Johnathan Lewis; his great-granddaughters, Alana Taylor and Jayla; and a host of relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at the Church of The Living God, Temple #44, 9800 S. Western Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90047 with Bishop H. Hendricks, officiating.
