The beautiful and sweet life of Aline Thomas Carthan came to a close on Monday, January 15, 2018, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Arkadelphia. She was born on Wednesday, January 17, 1940 in Okolona, Arkansas to the union of L. C. Thomas and Clara McDaniel Thomas. She gave her life to Christ at a tender age and was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church having once served as an usher and cook. Aline not only loved to cook, but she was a great cook. She was a soul food “boiling pots” cooking type of woman. She cooked at several restaurants and nursing homes; including the Murfreesboro Nursing Home, the Timbers Restaurant and Mom’s Diner. Some of her pastimes included fishing with her family and friends, spending time with her grandchildren, quilting, canning and taking care of her cats and dogs. Aline had a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. Her laughter and beautiful eyes will be missed by so many. Her passing leaves a huge hole in the hearts of those that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, a special aunt Minnie Aings and a great-grandson, Eric Pearson. She leaves her husband, Edward C. Carthan of Okolona, AR; her children, Calvin (Cynthia) Lee of Nashville, AR, Bobby Dixon (Patricia Lambert) of Prescott, AR, Clara Dixon of Okolona, AR, Debbie Thomas of Arkadelphia, AR, Lewis Carthan of Nashville, AR, James (Majornell) Burton of Murfreesboro, AR and Mary Ann Carthan of Arkadelphia; 14 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren.
She also leaves three sisters, Lois Johnson of Brunswick, GA, Maxine (John) Adams of Okolona, AR, and Charlene Leeper of Okolona, AR; one brother, Charlie (Doris) Thomas of Flint, MI; special cousin and friends, Mae Sue Williams, Minnie Ola Furlow, Shirley McDaniel, Ollie Richardson and Willie J McDaniel. Special nieces, Diana Leeper, Lisa Adams, and Toccara McFadden; a special nephew, Dale Thomas whom she raised the first 5 years of his life; other nephews, nieces other relatives and a host of many other special friends.
Public visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 6:00 -7:00 p.m. A celebration of her life will be on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Rufus Hatley serving as eulogist. Interment will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
