Truman Gentry

On January 18, 1944, a baby boy was born in Antione, Arkansas, he was named Truman Gentry. The proud parents were Norman and Orether McDaniel Gentry. Nurtured in a Christian environment, he was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, and Sunday School teacher, and he was President of the Southwest District Singing Convention, Division D. Truman graduated Simmons High School and attended AM & N College in Pine Bluff, Arkansas, now (UAPB). He was a member of the Simmons High Alumni Association. He was a retired truck driver for the Pike County Road Department. On April 19, 1964 believing God’s Word, “….and the two shall become one flesh….” he married the beautiful and sweet Fadie Epps. On Tuesday, December 15, 2009, in his 65th season he answered the call in Medical Parks Hospital in Hope, Arkansas at approximately 6:00 p.m. Awaiting his arrival and to welcome him home were his parents, two of his brothers, Norman Gentry, Jr. and Floyd Gentry and one of his sisters, Mary Matlock. Those left to celebrate his life and remember his legacy are his loving wife, Fadie Gentry, his two sons, Gerald Gentry of Houston, Texas and Dwayne (Paula) Gentry of Little Rock, and one daughter, Celilia Gentry of Antione; two brothers, Troy (Shirley) Gentry and Ralph (Alfreda) Gentry of Antione; two sisters, Ola Sue (Horace) Pearson of Flint, Michigan and Gearldine Dixon of Okolona, thirteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; uncles J. C. McDaniel, Fred McDaniel, Robert McDaniel, Frankie McDaniel and his aunt Lee Ethel Hopkins, all of Flint, Michigan. Tributes and farewells will be shared on Saturday, December 19th at 10:00 a.m. in Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where Rev. Rufus R. Hatley is the pastor and will preach the celebration message. Mr. Gentry will lie in state in the funeral home Friday, December 18th from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Committal and final resting place will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Bearers of the casket will be Derrick Beard, Aundray Gentry, Bobby Gentry, Claude Gentry, Ladell Gentry, and Rodney Gentry.
