God’s child, Archie Mae Giles was born into time on March 30, 1929, in Sparkman, Arkansas to the blessed union of Arch and Iora Downs Giles.
During her early childhood, she gave her life to Christ. She was a faithful member of Ebenezer Baptist Church where she served dutifully with the WMU, as the kitchen committee chairperson, and as a choir member.
Believing God’s Word, “….and the two shall become one flesh….” she became Mrs. Archie Mae Hunter when she married the handsome Christel Lee Hunter and together they laid a solid foundation for family life based on love, commitment, and Christian values.
Archie Mae was known throughout the community as a friendly woman, and a godly woman with a strong devotion to God. She was a part of that generation that counted motherhood as a virtue because mothers knew the difference between a house and home.
So her golden accomplishment in life was to make a loving home that would produce a tapestry of memories that David, James, Gregory and Melendell would forever cherish. She was that warm hand on a cold morning; that voice of wisdom and reason when the world was upside-down; that vessel of hope that carried loved ones and friends safely across rivers of change in their lives and that prayerful servant who blessed the Lord at all times.
Trusting in God’s word “Be thou faithful until death and I will give thee a crown of life.” after eighty seasons of life on January 18, 2010, Archie Mae answered the call that no man can refuse. She was welcomed to her eternal home by her parents, he beloved husband, Christel Lee and two sons David Hunter and James who made his transition January 16, 2010.
Because love is far greater than death Archie Mae departs this earth in body only. Her gentle smile and infectious laugh lives on in the memories, minds and hearts of her children: Gregory Hunter and Melendell (Lee Andrew Locke) all of Sparkman; two daughters-in-law, Gayle Hunter of Russell, Kansas and Earline Hunter of Detroit, Michigan; one sister, Lois Dean Brown of Doris Palace, CA; 6 grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, numerous friends, as well as, the Ebenezer Baptist Church family.
“Behold, I tell you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed - in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye………” I Corinthians 15:51-52
