Lois Patrice Conerly was born into this life on July 28, 1930, at the Happy Hill Community in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to Maggie Brim Williams and Eli Summerville. She was raised by Rev. James and Mrs. Lucy Brownlee.
Lois married Lawrence “L.C.” Conerly and together the two made a dynamic “cooking duo.” They moved to Dallas in 1963 and cooked at the Inwood Racquet Club several years before moving to New Orleans to run a restaurant in 1978.
Fulfilling their dream they returned to Oak Lawn community in Dallas and opened “Mom’s Kitchen”. The menu was small but eclectic: barbeque, fried catfish, burgers, crawfish gumbo, homemade tamales, red beans and rice.
After the death of her beloved L. C. she closed Mom’s Kitchen and worked as a cook at Presidents First Lady Health Spa of Dallas, Texas and after thirty faithful years of service she finally retired.
Lois moved back to Arkadelphia and united with Gennesaret Missionary Baptist Church. She always presented herself as a friendly and warm person with an infectious smile.
In all of her 79 seasons of life she made friends on top of friends and on Saturday, February 27, 2010 she passed from this life into the new life. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. C. Conerly.
She leaves indelible impressions in the hearts and minds of her children: Leroy Brownlee (Vera) of Little Rock, AR, James Willis Grandy of Dallas, TX, Eula Grant (Lewis) of Dallas, TX, Herbert Allison (Pam) of Arkadelphia, Ronnie Keith Brownlee (Sherry) of Dallas, TX, Ricky Conerly (Rose) of Dallas, TX, Freddie Conerly of Dallas, TX, Genetta Conerly of Dallas, TX, Raymond Conerly (Beatha) of Dallas, TX, and Morocco Conerly (Rochelle) of Dallas, TX.
Lois also leaves one brother, Eddie Lee Summerville (Ella) of Arkadelphia and two sisters, Geneva Fluewellen of Beaumont, TX and Mattie Sue Butler of Lansing, MI; one aunt, Elsie Snowden of Arkadelphia, twenty grandchildren, sixteen great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, numerous friends, three special childhood friends, Amboline House, Belois Montgomery, and Lucille “Sis” Brim.
A Celebration of her new life will be held Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. in the sancturay of Gennersaret Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. Frederick Smith is the pastor and will officiate. Rev. Charels D. Hood will preach the celebration message.
