One’s story of life begins at birth. All chapters are an ongoing work in progress, revealing the high and lows in each one’s novel, with each day urging it’s author on to that “climatic story ending.”
The pages of this novel began for Robert Lee “Goob” Gentry when he was born on January 9, 1939, in Okolona, Arkansas to Taft and Rena Johnson Gentry.
Robert attended Simmons High School. He accepted Christ at an early age and united with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Okolona, Arkansas. Robert was a retired employee of Anthony Sawmill & Warehouse in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. He also worked independently and hauled pulpwood from time to time with the late James Henry Meeks.
“Goob” as we all knew him had a heart of gold and was always there for everyone. Even though with his illness and while in the Murfreesboro Nursing Home, he continued to be loving and caring to everyone.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Rena & Taft Gentry; one sister Gladyce Gentry Matlock; two brothers O.T. Gentry, and Jake “Jazz” Gentry.
In his 71st season of life the final chapter ended on Saturday morning on August 7, 2010 at Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, Arkansas.
Robert leaves a legacy of love & service through his loving family: one niece, Sonya (Tilia) Willis of Flint, MI; a special cousin and caregiver, Mae Sue (Sylvester) Williams of Okolona, AR; a special cousin Arzola Cook of Blytheville, Arkansas and a host other cousins, relatives, friends, special friends, Linda Copeland, Eddie Holton, Maxine Holton, and Billy Howard all of the Murfreesboro Nursing Center.
