Katrena Lanette Sorrells arrived on July 29, 1982, in Prescott, Arkansas. Better known to family and friends as “Bean Bean”, she grew up in Prescott surrounded by the love of her parents, Darrell Nolan and Shirley Sorrells.
Katrena accepted Christ at a tender age. Later in life she joined New Beginnings Ministries under the pastorate of Rev. Herbert Adams.
“Bean Bean” was educated in the Nevada County School System and furthered her education by attending UACCH – The University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. She was a former employee of Pine Hope Nursing Home in Hope, Arkansas
Katrena was a rare “rich gift” who inspired everyone who crossed her path. The Lord blessed her with three beautiful children to love and nurture. She made many sacrifices to support her children and to make a loving home that they would forever cherish.
“Bean Bean” possessed her own style and loved music, particularly “The Blues”. Family, as well as friends, will miss her quite strength and love, but will never forget her spirit. She lived life to the fullest, and there was never a dull moment when Katrena was around.
In her 28th season of life Katrena received her blessing of immortality on Monday, September 27, 2010 at UAMS in Little Rock, Arkansas.
She was welcomed home by her mother Shirley Sorrells, her aunt Mary Ann Sorrells and her grandmother Arlean Sorrells.
Because love is far greater than death Katrena departs this earth in body only. Her gentle smile and infectious laugh lives on in the memories, minds and hearts of her children; Nickalous Wyatt of Hope, Arkansas, Mshayla Sorrells of Prescott, Arkansas and Korneisha Samuels of Prescott, Arkansas; one sister, Tiffany (Wayne) Nolen of Prescott, Arkansas; four brothers, Michael (Lakeisha) Purifoy of Texarkana, Arkansas, Cedric Flemons of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Tremaine (Michela) Sorrells of Prescott, Arkansas, Jermaine (Lavonda) Sorrells of Gurdon, Arkansas; and her beloved great-grandmother Macey Haynie of Prescott, Arkansas.
She also leaves her fiancé Kortney Samuels and her mother-in-law Maebell Samuels both of Prescott, Arkansas; her sister-in-law, Amanda Purifoy of Texarkana, Arkansas; and a multitude of aunt, uncles, nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and countless friends.
Katrena will lie in state at Williams Funeral Home - The Prescott Chapel, 113 E. Elm St. in Prescott, Arkansas on Friday, October 1, 2010, from 12 noon until 7:00 p.m.
The family will greet friends and share with tem the Images of Life DVD from 6-7 p.m.
All have been invited to attend a celebration of her life at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 2, 2010, at Munns Chapel where Rev. Arthur Hill is the pastor. Elder Herbert Adams the pastor of New Beginnings COGIC will render words of comfort.
The committal service and final resting place will be at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Okolona, Arkansas.
Bearers of the casket will be Dartelli Kight, Koery Cheatham, Wane Henr, Michael Williams, Terry McGill, and Erik Haynie.
