As we retrace the footprints of Mother Alta Mae Walker we can only give thanks for the many lives she enriched along life’s journey. A sweet, humble and quite woman, she was blessed to enjoy many of God’s blessings as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, trusted friend and Saint.
Alta Mae was born April 2, 1940, in Little Rock, Arkansas to Alfred and Lena Scott Bell. She attended Merrill High School in Pine Bluff, Arkansas and continued her education at Hyde Park High School in Chicago, Illinois.
She met her husband, Thomas, as a young and tender age and later united in Holy matrimony on May 8, 1976. after a three-day shut-in, on December 7, 1976, she was saved and filled with the Holy Ghost under the leadership of Bishop Samuel McCarthy, Pastor of Gethsemane COGIC in Chicago, IL.
She sang in the choir and was highly attracted to the young people of the church. Mother Walker and Superintendent Walker were affectionately called “Mom and Dad”. She was motivated by the spirit of God to move back to Arkansas and continue their evangelistic work.
She was a great church Mother at Trinity Faith COGIC and the Ministers Wives President of the Fordyce West District. Mother Walker has a great woman of wisdom and unwavering faith. As a great evangelistic worker, for years, she ministered side by side with her husband with many sons and daughters of the gospel given to them by God. She was also dedicated community worker serving on the Board of Carthage Housing Authority until her health failed.
Alta Mae was preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Lena Scott Bell and all of her siblings - Tommie, Mozetta, Mose, Curly, Pearlena and Robert.
