With heavy hearts yet joyful spirits, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Bertha Mae Sorrells. She was born on June 30, 1955, in Bluff City, Arkansas at Nevada County Hospital to the union of Finis and Macy Ella Sims Haynie. She peacefully departed this world on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at St. Michael Hospital in Texarkana, Texas.

Raised in Bluff City, Arkansas she was a lifelong member of St. John Baptist Church. Bertha blossomed and was well-known in Prescott. A proud graduate of McRae High School, she embraced life with zeal. Known as the life of the party, Bertha lived fiercely, embodying the mantra that she loved the life she lived and lived the life she loved. Throughout her journey, she proudly faced numerous struggles, emerging with strength and determination that defined her character.

Bertha was more than a homemaker; she was a woman of many talents, including working for the construction of the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. She had a zest for life that extended to her passions, including a love for watching wrestling, card games, and blues music, with Sir Charles’ song “Trials and Tribulations” holding a special place in her heart.Bertha as a fierce woman, a woman of joy, and a beacon of love. Above all, her love for her children and grandchildren was immeasurable. She was their protector and greatest supporter, always ensuring they knew the strength of her love.

She was preceded in death by her parents; Finis and Macy Ella Haynie; brothers, Finis Lee Haynie, Lee Artis Haynie, and Artis Lee Haynie; sisters, Arlean Sorrells, Bertha Dean Martin, and Gennie Ella Haynie.

Her memory will live forever in the hearts of her children, Johnny Sorrells, Jr., of Prescott, AR, Jillian Ingram of Forney, TX, Kolonda Sorrells of Texarkana, AR and Kaylar Sorrells of Prescott, AR; 11 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and her sister, Clara Purifoy of Prescott, AR. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, several cousins and many friends.Viewing will be held at Williams Funeral Home on Friday, April 25, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Services will be held at St. John Baptist Church in Bluff City on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Rev. Willie Fort, officiating. Interment will be at St. John Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Clifton Haynie, Finis Sorrells, Javion Ingram, Jayce Ingram, Michael Purifoy, and Courtney Moss. Honorary pallbearers will be Jordan Ingram, Damien Garner, Kamydre Sorrells, Jermaine Sorrells, Donald Purifoy and James Sorrells.
