Mrs. Betty Barnes passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at McLaren Hospital in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 70. She was born June 15, 1947 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to the late William and Alendean Booker Smith. She was the fourth of nine children.
Betty attend Peake High School in Arkadelphia, Arkansas and moved to Michigan in 1966. Betty met and married Melvin Barnes and to this union one child was born. She worked for Crowne Plaza Hotel in Lansing for 29 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shanette Barnes; brother, Donald Smith; sister, Patricia Smith and nephew, Randy L. Davis.
She leaves to embrace her memories her husband, Melvin Barnes, Jr.; sons, Anthony L. (Kriste) Duncan and Anthony Fortner, Jr.; daughter, Corsica Lyons; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, special daughters, Marsha (DeShon) Leek, Gloria Gonzales, Joann Spencer Taylor, Marcella Rosaro, Densay Parker, Tenna McHamare, Diaz Terry and Brenda Polocuz; son-in-law, Anthony (Christa) Fortner, Sr.; brother, William Smith, Jr., of Hot Springs, Arkansas; five sisters, Mary (Lee) Wiley of Radcliff, Kentucky, Gloria Davis of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, Bertha (James) Hursey of Lansing, Michigan, Virginia Johnson of Arkadelphia, Arkansas and Wilma (Phenoid) McClure of Curtis, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Robert Barnes of Wadell, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Johnnie B. Johnson and Joyce Barnes both of Chicago, Illinois; many nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
