Dorothy Jean Wingfield, the daughter of the late George and Earnestine Beavers Wingfield was born March 10, 1938, in Clark County. She confessed her faith in Christ at a tender age where she united with Holly Grove Baptist Church in Okolona. She was a graduate of Simmons High School in Okolona and married her high school sweetheart Johnny Clay Nelson in May of 1957. The Lord blessed them with three children, Dennis, Ermatine and Milton. She married George Merle DeLamar on August 26, 1966, and their union was blessed with two children, James and Sandra.
She later united with the Mt. Olive AME Church in Dalark where she was a member for over 50 years having served as head steward, Class leader and on the kitchen committee. She reunited with Holly Grove Baptist CHurch on December 18, 2022.Dorothy retired from Henderson State University after 34 years. She worked hard to take care of her children and grandchildren. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing and playing softball.
On Friday, September 6, 2024, in her 86th season of life she began her eternal celebration in a land that shall never grow old. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Earnestine Wingfield, a brother, John Willie Wingfield; her husband, George Merle DeLamar (March 22, 2018), and a son-in-law, Gerald Johnson.
Memories of Dorothy’s will live in the hearts of her children, Dennis (Sue) Nelson of Malvern, AR, Ermatine Johnson of Gum Springs, AR, Milton Nelson of Pine Bluff, AR, James DeLamar of Tucker, AR, and Sandra DeLamar (James Jacobs) of Dalark, AR; nine grandchildren, Kendra Young, Amanda Jones, Kayla Nelson, Ronika Horton, Va’del Reed, Rit’Chard Reed, Briuna DeLamar, Michael Horton and Demone DeLamar; eighteen great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; her godchildren, Darren Johnson, Eric (Katrine) Keith, Bridgette (Nate) Williams, and David (Mary) Hall; two sisters-in-law, Geneva King and Berthia DeLamar; two brothers, James (Emma) Wingfield and George (Betty) Wingfield, and one brother-in-law, Oliver "Pete" DeLamar of Oakland, CA. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, special friends Vanilla Hannah, Marshall Quarles and Sherley Dancy, as well as, numerous other friends and the Holly Grove Baptist Church family.

A celebration of her life will be held at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Friday, September 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Llewellyn E. Terry, Sr., officiating and Elder Kent J. Broughton, eulogist. Viewing will take place from noon until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at Williams Funeral Home and the family will greet friends from 6:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Interment will be at Holly Grove Cemetery in Okolona, Arkansas.
Pallbearers will be Sammy DeLamar, Claude DeLamar, Clifford DeLamar, Carl DeLamar, Clyde DeLamar, Carl Johnson, Tommy Hill and Ronald Brim. Honorary pallbearers will be Va’del Reed, Rit’Chard Reed, Michael Horton, Demone DeLamar, Eric Young and Chris Ollison.
