Gertie Mae Hill Dixon the last surviving Hill family member of her generation passed on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Courtyards Gardens in Arkadelphia. She was 95.
Gertie M. Dixon was born into this life on August 18, 1923 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas to the union of Sam and Mattie Ross Hill. She accepted Christ at a young age and was a life long member of St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church.
She married Thurman Dixon and to this union seven children were born. She was a great mother who loved unconditionally.
Gertie worked as foster grandparent with the AHDC. The Foster Grandparent Program is a part of Senior Corps, along with RSVP and Senior Companions. Senior Corps is administered by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency that improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering.
Gertie enjoyed family reunions, get-togethers and celebrating her birthday.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thurman Dixon; three children, Lillie Dixon, Tommy Lee Dixon and Sammy Lee Dixon, as well as, all of her siblings.
Her memory will be forever cherished by her children: Nettie Brown of Houston, TX, Lady Barker of Arkadelphia, AR, Thurman (Patsy) Dixon, Jr., of Missouri City, TX and Percy Lee (Delores) Dixon of Missouri City, TX; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, twelve great-great-grandchild and one great-great-great grandchild.
Home going service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2019 at St. Paul AME Church with Rev. T. W. Scott, officiating. Interment will be at Richmond Hill Cemetery.
