Gracie Mae Hayes-Hamlin was born November 29, 1931, in Jackson, Louisiana to Mack Hayes and Queen Osborne. She departed this life on December 6, 2019, at Baptist Health Hospital in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She claimed Christ as her Lord and Savior and at an early age at St. Rest Baptist Church in Louisiana.Gracie was united in holy matrimony to Edward Hamlin for forty-five years until his death in 2006. They both enjoyed visiting with friends and returning home to Bastrop and St. Rest, Louisiana to spend time with family. After moving to Arkansas, they joined Clayborn Chapel Church which later consolidated with St. Paul A.M.E. Church. During her lifetime, Gracie had the following employers: Ruby and John Sturgis, Fafnir Bearing Company, DeGray Lodge and Baptist Health of Arkadelphia. Gracie loved cooking, sewing, the Arkansas Razorbacks and spending time with family and friends. She also loved to talk on the phone earning her the nickname of, “CNN” by family members because she knew everything that was going on in the family but never left the comfort of her home. Gracie was preceded in death by her parents Mack Hayes and Queen Osborne; her husband of forty-five years, Edward Hamlin; two brothers, Willie Lee Hayes and Mack Hayes Jr.; two sisters, Pearl Frazier and Nancy Richard; two children Theodore Robinson and Debra Doyle. She leaves to cherish her memories: nine children: Thomas Hayes, Quitman, LA; John (Patricia) Robinson, Denver, CO; Kenny (Lottie) Hamlin, Arkadelphia, AR; Diedra (Charles) Middleton, Arkadelphia, AR; Rita (Sampson) Sutton, Bastrop, LA; Sid (Michele) Tevis, El Dorado Hills, CA; Edward Chafford, Arkadelphia, AR; Elvis (Wanda) Chafford, Bastrop, LA; Lester (Brenda) Hamlin, Monroe, LA; one brother, George (Jean) Hayes, Quitman, LA; four sisters: Gloria (Gene) Bucking, Denver, CO, Clara (Ezekiel) Leonard, Quitman, LA, Minnie Ankton, Arkadelphia, AR, Queen Ramos, Denver, CO; grandchildren: Felicia Hayes, Corwin Hayes, Bridgett Robinson, John Robinson Jr., Alicia Robinson, Rev. Clifford Caldwell, Tenisha Tevis, Taryn Tevis, Aaron Tevis, Rachelle Doyle, Treva Robinson, Evonne West, Stebbin Davis, Antigone Chafford, Angel Chafford, Alicia Alford, Tavares Ricks, Brandy Chafford, Alicia Chafford, Delishia Chafford, Delvis Chafford, Crystal Hamlin, Leslie Johnson, Lester Hamlin Jr., Kentrel Hamlin, Kayla Hamlin, Ollie Ware, Jr., Yolanda Beard; two special adopted children, Erma & Moses Smith, twenty-nine great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
