Helen Marie Epps Hunter was born in Texarkana, Arkansas on January 1, 1959 to the union of Jasper and Mary Helen Atkins Epps.
She attended Lafayette High School and worked as a homemaker. She married Larry Joe Hunter and later moved to Garland, Arkansas. After his passing she moved back to Camden in 2003 to be closer to her family.
Her playground was a pond or fishing hole. She loved fishing and would spend hours waiting for the best catch. She enjoyed watching gameshows and working crossword puzzles. She loved to “people watch” low-key being nosey. She listened to gospel music, but favored the blues. Her favorite blues singers were Johnny Taylor and Bobby Womack.
Helen loved her family immensely and never met a stranger. Her smile and laughter will be missed but never forgotten.
She passed from this life on Monday, April 20, 2020 at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Texarkana, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Mary Helen; her husband Larry Joe Hunter; a brother, Bobby Ray Epps and a great-grandchild.
Those left behind to cherish many beautiful memories are her children: Latricia Epps of Camden, Sharessa Epps (Frederick) of El Dorado, AR and Tiawana Mitchell Haynie (Jose) of Camden; a son, Charles Gordon of Ft. Smith, AR and two special daughters, Kimberly Cross of Camden, AR; nine grandchildren; two special grandchildren, Kalilah, her petty partner in crime and Tamerria, her fishing buddy; five great-grandchildren, four sisters, Ruby Epps of Dallas, TX, Virgie Epps of Forest City, AR, Lillie Hampton (John) of Camden, AR and Gearldine Epps of Camden, AR; three brothers, Evie Charles Epps of Little Rock, AR, Jasper Epps, Jr., and Alonzo Epps of Topeka, KS. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, numerous cousins and several friends.
Walk through visitation will be shared from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2020 at Williams Funeral Home Van Buren in Camden. Due to the COVID-19 virus and the nature of the death, we must insist that no lingering will be allowed after you have paid your respect to the family, we ask that you leave so others may have the chance to enter the funeral home Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Greenwood Cemetery on Camden under the direction of Williams Funeral Home Van Buren.
Friends, thank you for grieving with us during this time. As you do, take a moment also to both celebrate a life well lived and a death worth dying. We will miss her, but we are so glad that she woke up in Heaven. Thank you for being a part of this journey with us. Latricia, Sharessa and Tiawana.
