Ida Mae Brown Owens was the oldest child born to Akie’B Brown and Gertrude Moore Brown on April 6, 1934 in Hampton, Arkansas.
She accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of the Church of Christ in Harrell, Arkansas where she loved congregational singing. She married Hershal Harris and to this union eight children were born. She later married Booker T. Owens. Ida was a loving mother who enjoyed cooking and fishing.
She was a caregiver by nature and worked as a nurse’s aide in El Dorado. She greeted family and friends with a big smile and warm hug. She preached loved and forgiveness.
Ida Mae passed from this life on Monday, November 19, 2018 at her home in Thornton, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Akie’B Brown and Gertrude Moore Brown Scott who made her transition on May 9, 2016; her husband, Booker T. Owens and two children, Hershal Harris, Jr., and Jeanette Harris.
Her passing shall be filled with rejoicing for a life well lived. Her love was shared by six children: Bessie (Henry) Vaughn of Fordyce, AR, Willie Harris of Fordyce, AR, Mary Walker of Fordyce, AR, Travis Harris of Fordyce, AR, Willell (Barbara) Harris of Thornton, AR, and Irene Harris of Magnolia, AR; twelve grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She also leaves sisters, Sletie (L.J.) Smith of Houston, TX and Stella (George) Neal of Fordyce, AR; brothers, Curtis (Alice) Brown of Camden, AR, George E. (Mary) Brown of Ivan, AR, and Cardell (Ruby) Brown of Fordyce, AR and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Harrell, Arkansas with Bro. Greg Golden, officiating and eulogist. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time. Interment will be in Dixon Cemetery in Ivan, Arkansas.
