Jackie Lynn Gray

August 1, 1950 — June 13, 2018

Jackie Lynn Gray was born into this life on August 1, 1950, to Willie C. “Dub” Gray and Emma Francis Adkinson Gray in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

He professed his hope in Christ and was a member of Christ Temple Holiness Church in Arkadelphia where he served as a deacon. Jackie was a 1968 graduate of Peake High School where he played on the football team.


He completed one semester at Ouachita Baptist University and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His time in the military taught him commitment and discipline. His specialized as a rifleman and his related civilian occupation was a Proof Director Small Arms. He completed one year of Business Administration at MCI in Washington, D.C. Jackie was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksman badge, Vietnam Service Medal with one star and the Combat Action Ribbon. His last duty of assignment was USFA Sasebo Japan. He was honorably discharged on August 14, 1975.

Jackie married and the family made their home in California. He worked several jobs over the years including; the Naval Shipyard in San Diego, California, the United State Post Office and the Veterans Administration Hospital. In 1998, due to the loss of his parents he relocated to Arkadelphia where he re-established old ties with family and friends.

To know Jackie was to love him; some of his close friends and family often called him “Jack”. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a true collector of veteran’s paraphernalia and guns. He was a loving father and family was everything to him. Jackie was the “cool” father and grandfather. He always spoke his mind and he did not play. He “meant what he said” and “said what he meant.” He was natural witty and could easily make a person laugh. His personality and his presence will be forever missed.

Jackie passed on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 in his 67th season of life. He was preceded in death by his parents; Willie C. “Dub” Gray and Emma Francis Gray; his wife, Minnie B. Pugh Gray; two brothers, Earnest Gray and Clyde Gray; one sister, Charlotte Gray; a son, Marcus Gray (March 22, 2014) and two grandchildren, Corey Gray (March 22, 2014) and Me’Ari C’Aire Horton (August 5, 2017); a grandson, Marcus Gray passed on Sunday, June 17, 2018.

Jack leaves five children, Shirley Peterson of Pine Bluff, AR, Jackie Gray, Jr. (Nicole) of Pine Bluff, AR, Duringus Gray (Erica) of Arkadelphia, AR, Keauntae Gray (Erica) of Arkadelphia, AR and Razheme Gray of Arkadelphia, AR; one sister, Linda Purifoy of Arkadelphia, AR; one brother, Willie Gray of Little Rock, AR; an uncle, Roy C. “Red” Gray of Arkadelphia, AR; his grandchildren, Jabrea Gray, Janatika Williams, Ti’Rel Butler, DeVontae Reynolds, Latoya Brown, Marquell White, Marcus Gray, Jr., Ivy Gray, Keauntae Gray, Jr., Kenon Gray, Gerren Williams, Markeyia Gray and Italie Gray; eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Public visitation will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 from 12 noon until 4:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm at Christ Temple Holiness Church, 1701 Pine Street. A celebration of his life will be shared on Friday, June 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Dr. Lewis A. Shepherd, Jr., pastor and Rev. Llewellyn E. Terry, Sr., eulogist. Interment will be at Piney Grove Cemetery in Arkadelphia, Arkansas with military honors.
