The life of James Edison Hulsey, Sr., came to a close on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil and Patsy Griffin Hulsey; a son, James Hulsey, Jr.; four brothers, Johnny Joe Hulsey, Cecil Hulsey, Sr., Paul Hulsey and David Hulsey, Sr.; and two nephews, Clarence Hulsey and Dalton Loyd.
James was born on April 12, 1966 in Victoria, Texas to the union of Cecil and Patsy Hulsey. A natural born outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt. He enjoyed listening to music, watching football and his favorite show “Cops”. By all accounts he was a “jack of all trades”, but his passion was auto mechanics. He used his skilled hands to repair, fix and replace parts on several cars. He was the “go-to” man for any mechanical need. He could be found any day spending countless hours under someone’s hood. James proudly proclaimed that he was too good to be a labeled as a “shade tree” mechanic. His reputation for proficient and timely work was widely known throughout Okolona and the surrounding area.
One of his greatest joys was spending memorable moments with relatives and friends, both young and old. He will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and friends. He possessed a friendly spirit and never met a stranger. He meant what he said, and said what he meant. His natural wit and humor could never be duplicated.
Family, as well as friends, will miss his strength, smile and love, but will never forget his spirit and compassion. He leaves five children; Stephen (Kristen) Hulsey of Okolona, AR, Patricia Hulsey of Blevins, AR, Travis Keenom of Okolona, AR, Bradley (Courtney) McDougal of Arkadelphia, AR and Miranda Hulsey of Salem, IL; and five grandchildren. He also leaves Patricia (Kenneth) Felton of Arkadelphia, Loretta (Darrell) Loyd of Okolona, AR and Donnie, Sr. (Kayla) Hulsey of Sandoval, IL; aunts and uncles; special friends, Walter Dixon, Tim Leeper, Ricky Howell and Glen Dixon. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral service will be at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Kingdom Authority Christian Ministries with the visitation from 3:00 p.m. until 4:45 p.m. Interment will be at Okolona Cemetery.
