James Leon Matlock was born April 15, 1954 to the late Shandria and Earthie L. (Giles) Matlock in Cleveland Ohio. He attended school in his early years in Cleveland, Ohio; after moving to Arkansas he graduated from Sparkman High School. James attended First Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev L.T. Walker. James was employed at Tolea Lumber Company in Leola, AR, after which he worked construction. He eventually retired from Brazeale Lumber Company in Sparkman, AR. James had a passion for life, he loved all types of music, dancing, shopping with his daughter, watching westerns on TV, and visiting with family and friends. James was mostly known for his gentle nature and affectionate smile. James departed this life on Wednesday, January 1, 2020. He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter Shaketha (James) Whyte of Sparkman, AR; three granddaughters Maria, Monica, and Katlina White of Sparkman, AR; four brothers Kenneth (Brenda) Matlock of North Little Rock, AR; Dennis Matlock of Arkadelphia, AR; Tyrone (Shanda) Matlock of Indianapolis, IN; Jerome (Sarah) Matlock of Alabama; five sisters Mattie (Don) Davis and Palestine (George) Wright of Little Rock, AR; Kathy (Nathaniel) Betts of Pine Bluff, AR; Mary Matlock of Detroit, MI, and Mary Judd of Milwaukee, WI; two aunts Annie Carr of Dalark, AR; Marilyn Judd of Milwaukee, WI; twenty-seven nieces and nephews, 48 great-nieces and nephews, and six great-great nieces and nephews; a host of other relatives and friends.
