Jerry A. Sherman was born into time on Friday, July 22, 1966 in Dallas, Texas to Dorthea Brown. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, John D. and Fannie Sherman in McNeil, Arkansas. From childhood, he was an active and busy little boy. His contagious laugh and bright smile warmed the hearts of friends and family alike. He accepted Christ at a young age and was baptized at New Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Stephens; and was an ordained deacon. He was a 1985 graduate of McNeil High School and Salutatorian. Jerry married the apple of his eye, Lisa M. Blakely on September 2, 1988. He started his career with the Nevada County School District in 1999. He worked as security, a bus driver and custodian. He was a man who wore many hats. By all accounts he was a “jack of all trades”, but he loved to chop fire wood, roofing work and repairs, tearing down old houses and working on cars. He used his skilled hands to repair, fix and replace, yet used his heart to help, console and encourage; and his smile to brighten everyone’s day. When not working at the school he busied himself around the house while spending time with his grandchild and friends. He fellowshipped and worshipped at both Victory Church in Camden under the leadership of Jerry Ables and New Beginnings COGIC in Hope under the leadership of Elder Gary Blakely. Jerry was a funny, caring, and taught Sunday school. He made friends easily and his impact was felt in everything he did. He was always a devoted husband, father and grandfather; no sacrifice was too great for his family. Even with his handsome smile, he didn’t like taking pictures, but would from time to time find himself getting in position for a picture. He believed that laughter was good for the soul. He had a way to either make one laugh or make one smile. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. Matthew 6:25On Tuesday, February 6, 2018, Jerry passed from this life. His job was completed; his journey here has ended. His beautiful presence will be missed. To some his 51 years, 6 months and 15 days was a short life, but he accomplished more than many people twice his age. His smile never wavered and it was that smile that touched so many students at Nevada High School. He constantly encouraged the students and anyone who crossed his path.Jerry will be forever missed by: his wife of nearly 30 years, Lisa M. Sherman of Rosston; his mother, Dorthea Brown of Waldo, AR; three sons, Shaundriel Blakely, Antwann (Crystal) Blakely and Jerrell Sherman all of Rosston, AR; five grandchildren, Shondrika Blakely, Jeremiah Blakely, Keonte Wingfield, Draya Blakely and Gabriella Blakely; three sisters, Linda (Ernest) Webster of Little Rock, AR, Rachael Sherman of San Antonio, TX and Ann Wheaton of Oakland, CA; one brother, Anthony Scott (Stephanie) Murserow of Wilmington, NC; two special brothers, Robert Turner and Elder Gary Balkely; brothers and sisters-in-law, Irvin (Gail) Blakely, Dorrie (Randy) Purifoy, Gary (Billie) Blakely, Ronnie Blakely and Rhonda (Robert) McCoy; a host of nieces, nephews, special friends Lewis Sanders, Alvin Gulley, Ernest Hughey and Robert Boston, as well as, other friends, the students, faculty and staff at Nevada High School.
