Ludelia Davis Benson
1929 - 2018
“Be sure you are right; then go ahead.”

Ludelia Davis Benson was born on February 8, 1929 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. She was the only child of Rev. James D. Davis and Minnie Fred Moss Davis who pastored St. Paul AME Church in Arkadelphia. Her parents taught her to adhere to high morals, spiritual and educational values. She accepted Christ at a young age and was a lifelong member of Visitors Chapel A.M.E. Church where she served with the WMS, as an usher and church secretary for many years.

She was raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas and was a 1948 graduate of the historic Langston High School. She furthered her education as a student at Philander Smith College where she eared a B.S.E degree with a major in Home Economics and a minor in Elementary Education.  In 1952, she was offered her first teaching job in Marianna, Arkansas. After a very brief stay she moved back to Hot Springs and started a career in teaching that spanned over 28 years; having taught 4th grade at Goldstien Elementary, Eastside Elementary and Langston Elementary.

Ludelia was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, both the Rosettes Civic/Social Club where she once served as president and secretary, as well as, the Moon Glow Civic Club where she served as secretary. Ludelia always welcomed visits to her home from family and friends. She loved to read and especially dance. Although she had no children of her own; she loved, nurtured and help raise many. She always looked forward to attending the Langston High School Reunion and Visitors Chapel when she could attend.

Her pilgrimage was modest and fulfilling; she did things her way. On Monday, July 16, 2018 she slipped the bonds of this life for a life in eternity. Her independent spirit, iron will and strong character will never be duplicated, but leaves an impression on the lives of those she touched and enriched along this life’s journey.

Ludelia was preceded in death by her parents Rev. James D. and Minnie Davis.

Ludelia leaves sweet memories with her caregiver, Sherrie (George) Mays of North Little Rock, AR; her special families, the Snowden family: Dana Snowden, Denise Finney, Wallace Snowden; Terri and Derrick Pickens; god children: Steven Puckett, Kayla Pickens; her dear friend Gloria Lacey, many cousins, friends and the Visitors Chapel A.M.E. Church family.
